We have the state 4 A champion next door. Are we going to get anybody off that team. Looks like most of the stars have already commited to other schools.

Sure would be nice, wouldn't it? Hopefully Bennett is making some inroads with the Scots since his son is on the team.

hopefully he'll get some of those kids. as i mentioned in the General forum, he was at the game.

does anyone know who we're interested in on the team, or more importantly, if any of the Scots are interested in SMU.

GREAT GAME. Way to go Scotties! After all the nonsence that went down this past week, these kids kept their heads level, prepared, and delivered.

(please excuse any typos, i've been drinking since boarding the jet at noon for Tyler)

A jet goes to Tyler?

The linemen 77 looks pretty big. HP had some real smuf looking receivers.

The QB would be nice

yes, a jet can land in Tyler

I think you're talking about number 70. he's a monster. two of the OL have committed to BigXII schools (tech and baylor if i remember right)

the smurfs you speak of are John and Charlie Dickenson. they're 5'7" 155lbs twins. i know one of them has a full ride to the University of Denver for Lacross. i can't recall if they're both playing D1 Lacross or not. they can motor and are excellent athletes, just not big enough for college football.

Both are on full-ride 'ships to UofD for lacrosse. Their grandfather coached my YMCA football, basketball and baseball teams at Robert S. Hyer Elementary in 5th and 6th grade. We were undefeated in all 3 sports in 6th grade. Their father, Mark, was our QB. We rocked.

Hey Mr. Mustang- Thanks for ending years of therapy with that last entry. I got traded from that team so they could get a flyer for a running back. I seem to recall my new team didn't do quite as well.

I live two doors down from the Dickensons. Nicest people you'll ever meet. I think I remember Mark saying that he played with McElhenny in high school...

Football in Highland Park is really serious stuff. Heck, I would have traded me back then!

Here is a pic of our 5th grade YMCA team from Robert S. Hyer with the names of the players listed below:
Image
front row (l. to r.): Ed Gilliland, Rick Myers, Robert Hurst, Bob Dickerson, Terry Webster; back row (l. to r.) Brian Morschower, Rick Roehrig, Mark Dickenson, Matthew Nancaro. head coach Mr. Gene Dickenson. ***Note the practice helmet in front of Hurst...red SMU helmet with the 1960s era Mustang on the side!***

Now here's a pic of our 6th grade YMCA team from Robert S. Hyer:
Image
front row (l. to r.): Robert Hurst, Bill Blocker, Kyle Izakson, Bob Dickerson, Dan Marshall; back row (l. to r.) Rick Roehrig, Ed Gilliland, Jeff Bailey, Mark Dickenson. head coach Mr. Gene Dickenson

Terry Webster (a fine person and now a minister!) was 'traded' for Jeff Bailey, son of former Highland Park head football coach and athletic director Herman Bailey...at least that's what we've all been told over the years. Izakson, Blocker and Marshall joined the team when Meyers, Morschower and Nancaro transferred to other schools.

Members of the 6th grade team who went on to be members of the Highland Park Scots football team in 1973 and 1974 were Bailey, Blocker, Dickenson, Dickerson, Izakson and Roehrig.

Actually I heard that Izakson, Blocker, and Marshall were players that were named later in the famous Webster trade that shocked the entire 6th grade class!!!

There's a Paul Harvey-type 'rest of the story' tale about what happened in this so-called 'trade'. Too bad I'm not at liberty to tell it. I'll just say that Terry Webster is a class act all the way and I'm proud to call him my friend and fellow Mustang fan!
