Rivals software "rating" bust? Little help, Stallion...please, Stallion. Help us out.
I was looking at Michael Crabtree from Dallas Carter. Crabtree is rated a "4 STAR" with a 5.8 rating. This should and would put him just out of the "National Top 100" list, yet he is not listed in the "State Top 100", and is only number 45 in the "AREA Top 100". What gives? SMU...2nd to None
I'm not sure exactly what the problem is but Crabtree who was an unknown several months ago now has been offered by everyone and has jumped as much as any recruit in Texas. The Top 100 teams are only updated a few times a year so maybe he hasn't been elevated yet. BTW in anticipation of someone's uneducated response-if you follow a Top 100 that never changes its garbage. Recruits' stock goes up and down just like in the NFL Draft based upon performance in senior year, injuries, opportunity and coaches evaluations. DeMyron Martin was another whose stock rose late in the season too.
Stallion, you may be correct that Crabtree has jumped more than any player but he is no surprise or late entry as he was listed preseason #91 "State Top 100" and, I believe, that list was updated withnin the past two weeks.
I do not know where SMU is with Crabtree...we are not listed with him but if he decided to come to SMU, it would be the "classic Win - Win" situation. SMU...2nd to None
he is also putting up big numbers on the Basketball Court. Crabtree is much like Marcus Johnson of Cisco JC(via OU and Abilene High). A lot of people want a great athlete but some may be unwillingly to play him at QB. It is not uncommon for a lower profile program to cherry pick a prospect like that who insists on playing QB. But I've never seen SMU's name associated with Crabtree and he does have multiple (as in more than 10) BCS offers.
I know that but Rivals rating system must have a flaw(s).
I am now sure one can not really trust the Rivals rankings. There is no explanation for this ranking snaffu...if it happens in this case ...it is happening again and again. SMU...2nd to None
Michael Crabtree is quickly jumping up the rankings based on his senior year performance. Recently he jumped from the 54th ranked Athlete to the 13th. This is a huge jump and no doubt resulted in his four star status. The four stars essentially places you in the top 250 prospects in the nation, which he is rated as. His #91 ranking in the texas 100 is a preseason ranking and last updated on August 11th. Finally, the top 100 prospects is updated every month along with the various position rankings.
I was told the State Top 100 was updated three weeks ago. What is Rivals waiting on ...to find out who is being recruited and offered by the BCS schools?
If that is how Rivals arrives at their rankings.... it makes one appreciate Coach Bennett for his eye of talent even moreso. P.S How's that for a little sunshine on this rainy day! SMU...2nd to None
Right you are, Stallion. SMU was chasing Martin for quite a while before other schools realized how good he is. And now a Freshman All-America .... good eye, Coach! "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
... "Hit it."
It is hard to imagine that Rivals actually missed a player, huh stallion? Rivals has been totally accurate on everything they have on their site, right stallion, up to and including all of the "quotes" from players, etc. Totally agree with I AM's comments on the other thread.
Let's get off Stallion's back about Rivals. It is the single best source of information into a 17 year olds mind that is available to the general public. Are they right all the time? Of course not. However, I wouldn't have a freaking clue that Chris McMartin of Omaha, Nebraska has medium interest in SMU other than through Rivals. Never mind, that Rivals reported Joe Holmes commitment a week and a half before DMN article. The fact is that since the NCAA will not allow Bennett and Co. to comment on recruits and commitments prior to their signing, we have to rely on the stories told by a spotlight seeking kid/coach or parent.
Perhaps you could ask his father and then let all of us know. Seems more direct than asking someone on here to figure it out for you.
