there is a story on WR-LB Russell Roberts who we have discussed about a week ago which says that he visiting SMU on January 13. He is a great student and generally looking at the Southwest privates and Air Force. The story contains a hyperlink to his teammate and "good friend" S Daniel Johnson who is focusing on Texas Tech and A&M and many others. Rated 4 star, 5.8 and the No. 16 player in the State of Texas. Although the story dealt with Roberts and only made passing reference to Johnson-Johnson's School's of Interest now refer to a visit by Johnson to SMU as well on January 13 too. Again there is no story that actually says it but I'm just alerting you to the possibilty that both may be tripping to SMU on January 13.

Has to be a mistake, huh stallion, why would a 4 star kid be interested in us?

I think it might be legit. I don't remember the specifics, but his name surfaced a month or two back as "a longshot." Maybe the interest his friend has makes it less of a longshot.
Hope so, anyway.

Pony Fan I know how they update these things and you can tell its not supported by the story which brought both names up on the ticker. Just raised a question about it. Johnson has had 17 previous updates on his recruitment and he never even whispered the name SMU. This happened on a recruit about 2 months ago and I turned out to be right. Still I thought I was posting potential good news but with caution that it really isn't supported by any backup. Hopefully, Rivals is updating a separate story on Johnson which will confirm the report and let me assure you I will update.

That's great news, Stallion -- keep it coming (since your post beat mine by three minutes). Here's hoping it's accurate.

Maybe Johnson & Roberts want to go to the same school together? I certainly hope we can talk both of these guys into coming to SMU!
I am telling you guys/girls Bennett is doing well recruiting (might even have a few surprises up his sleeve for signing day) and we were only a few points from being Bowl Eligible. It doesn't surprise me that SMU is getting looks from better rated athletes this year.

it would be great if this kid would even think about SMU just to generate buzz. most likely though, he's just along for a trip to Dallas with his buddy.

Sounds like this kid could be an immediate starter for our D next year.
Come on Phill...reel this one in!

I agree -- if he can learn the defense, he might make a perfect replacement for Jamey Harper. I would guess the key is getting him and Roberts (his HS teammate) as a package deal, but that's just a guess.

Doesn't sound like a bad package to me. Roberts is listed as a WR/DB two star athlete. Not to mention a 4.0 student with a 1200 SAT not that that makes too much difference on the field

Let them be roommates.
Tell them they can take the same classes.
Tell them they can have their lockers next to each other.
Whatever -- get them here!

If a 4 Star recruit even comes along for the ride with his buddy, it might make a few others take notice which doesn't hurt. And who knows, he might find that life in the Big city is pretty cool and that Bennett and his staff are just right for him. It never hurts to have a recruit visit.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I HERD somewhere that Former Mustang O-lineman & Grad Asst. Austin Adami is the O-line coach @ Spring Woods High School . If this is true this could be the connection that might give the Mustangs an advantage.
