The Dallas Samuell RB said his weekend at SMU went well.
He also said that being close to home is not a big factor in his decision, and he said one thing he didn't like is the fact that SMU isn't a very big school.
He said (per rivals) that he's still going to take three more visits: Texas A&M, Kansas and Kansas State.

Yeah, the reoprt on Rivals didn't sound that positive. I don't think we would lose him to A&M though. THey are about to land 2 4 star RBs, so he would be way back on their list. Being close to home may not be that big of a deal, but we will see how much he enjoys that two hour busride from the airport to Manhattan.
Well...

We may have a shot. Hopefully he realizes the immediate impact he could make here. Even though we got DeMyron a talented guy like Tarrant will make an impact right away, even if it is not at running back.

So where are you suggesting he move? Safety? Is he big enough to play OLB?
Of course, Cedrick Dorsey was recruited to play DB....
No...

I am just saying that he could play anywhere, that he is too talented, we need him on the field. And that will play somewhere next year besides just halfback, it is a compliment to his abilities as a player.

you know after reading the article-although it was apparently no contest between the Aggies and SMU, we might have gotten him if the Aggies hadn't offered. The story says he compared SMU and the Aggies on the way home and called the Aggies back on the way home and committed. I've always wondered how a kid that ran for only 587 yards on 129 carries was rated so high. Was he hurt? Is Samuel that bad? Is he going to play CB in college? I don't usually like to bad mouth kids ESPECIALLY just because they committed to someone else but I'm sincerely wondering what is the scoop on his lack of production despite the fact he was still being strongly recruited. Must be something or I doubt the Aggies would offer. He reported something like 8 great offers-although it appeared to come down to SMU and A&M. I bet the Aggies catch a little heck from UT fans on recruiting a TB with 587 yards.

I would think one reason a guy with stats like this gets offered is because coaches always seem to get enamored with a guy's height, weight, strength, physique, potential .... something. To a much lesser degree, this might be a little like when NFL personnel types became infatuated last year with Matt Jones. Anyone could see he was a freak of an athlete, but Jacksonville drafted him high with the intent of switching positions. And it seems like it has/will pay off. Maybe Franochio and his staff look at Tarrant and see a CB or safety. Who knows.
