Juco QB

So is it safe to assume that we won't be signing a Juco QB that can participate in spring ball this year? This has got to be a problem as Bennett stated publicly that he was going to sign a Juco QB. Looks like we go into next season with 2 RS Freshmen QBs as 1 and 2 on the depth chart. I know that they like Willis, but he is still a Frosh.

Isn't there still a chance we can land Marcus Johnson?

i would think we could get somebody decent. Are starting qb positions that easy to come by in D-1? Our job is sitting there on a golden platter, with hope for a decent team to go along with it.

Bennett should go after Jimmy Oliver from Pearl River. 2 time JUCO Offensive player of the year and threw for over 6,000 yards in 2 seasons.

What exactly should be 'staying tuned' for?

Got any stats on him?
How are his academics?

Rumor is that Jimmy Oliver goes to USF however, Rivals is currently only listing a scholie from TCU for him.

2004:
207 of 379 for 3,487 and 40 TDs
2005:
195 of 351 for 2,871 and 27 TDs with 13 Ints

Including rushing yards, Jimmy averaged nation best 350 yards of offense a game in 2005.

An aside, Pearl River runs a spread offense much like SMUs.

Oh I'm tuned all right... I'm tuned into PF.com... it's where I go to get all my cryptic rumors, unsubstantiated guesswork, and inflated forty times!

I'm not bitter... that was all in jest. I promise.

I heard the same thing, to which I said they'd better hurry; signing period ends the 15th. I have no interest in a juco QB that doesn't play in the Spring.

all the decent JUCO QBs are a) already heading to their new campus because they signed on December 15 or b) ineligible to transfer until summer when they graduate from Junior College. If we are still looking for one now we are at least stirring the bottom of the barrell. Honestly I've never understood why you want to take a warm body just because he is a JUCO. Yes we should take the best player availiable with an increased recruiting pool availiable in JUCO -but can we still insist on quality. We took too many JUCOs two years ago when we should have planning for his successor. Where is the quality recruiting at QB. Does Phil Bennett know what a quality QB is? We ain't getting our first, fifth or tenth choice at QB during the last 3 years. We have had the weakest QB play in the 5 state region over the last 4 years. The program will pay because we ain't closing deals on quality QBs.

Stallion-

I am interested in your remark that 'we aren't closing the deal'. I am not an expert on recruiting and it has been a long time since I have lived in the Dallas area, so I am not sure that means. Can you give me an insight as to what we aren't doing in regards to closing the deal?
Thanks!
