Tight end commits to KU

The recruiting season is beginning to heat up, and Kansas University is raking in commitments as a result.

Another one pledged KU on Monday, according to rivals.com. Bradley Dedeaux, a 6-2, 240-pound tight end out of Midwest City, Okla., chose KU after visiting over the weekend. Tulsa, SMU and Oklahoma State also made scholarship offers to Dedeaux.

"I got to hang out with Brandon Blaney who coaches tight ends," Dedeaux told rivals.

"We really connected. He wants me to come in at 240-245 pounds and be ready to play next year."

Kansas now has 22 commitments for the 2006 class, including four junior-college transfers who already signed.

Signing day for the rest of the class is Feb. 1, and pledges are non-binding until then.

Why would a TE want to come here, we have 2 very good TE who dont get the ball now.

Jabba can have that one as long as he leaves us Burley.

Mangino looks like he could eat the training table by himself. He has to 400 lb+, I would like to see his 40 time.

Granted Kansas is in a BsCS conference, but why on earth would any student with half a brain want to go to school in Lawrence, Kansas? Lawrence, freakin, Kansas!!!!

Did this kid even visit the Hilltop?

Going to Kansas is about like attending NTSU or that other school over in Fort Worth. Simply a waste of 4-5 years of your youth.

How could anyone pass up an opportunity for a full ride at SMU?

And the argument can be made that while the SMU program continues to grow, a guy would have an option to come and play in Dallas or sit on a cold bench in Kansas. There is no decision to be made there -- this guy made a mistake.

well then that's the 10th Texan to make the same mistake.

How does he make the list of Texans?
He's from Oklahoma.

Crazyhorse - I, obviously, prefer SMU also, but KU has a beautiful campus. It really surprised me when I visited it and I can see why someone would want to go there. I dp question why someone would choose some of the other schools in the Big 12, such as Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kansas State University over SMU, because their campuses are just plain UGLY!

Maybe I put too much emphasis on the city itself. But when you add in the education, post-graduate biz opportunities/networking, "scenery", entertainment/music/pro sports, class size, media market, etc etc etc.

Its just hard for me to fathom someone selecting a place like Kansas. If football was the #1 thing in their life and they selected Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame, USC etc over SMU - I might understand. But this is Kansas!

But hey he was from Oklahoma so maybe Kansas is an upgrade for him.

Just think .... he could go to Kansas, catch 100 passes a year and he'll still be less important in Lawrence than the last guy on the end of the basketball team's bench. Woohoo.

Education/class size-SMU is a private univeristy. KU is public. SMU has small classes. KU is public. Advantage: SMU

Opportunities/Networking-I don't know what the average paycheck is coming out of either school, but I would venture to say that at least in the business world, SMU alums tend to be more successful than KU alums. However, there being more KU alums than SMU alums, I would say...Advantage: None

"Scenery"-Never been to KU or met anyone from there, but I'll go out on a limb and say Advantage: SMU

Entertainment/Music/Pro Sports: Lawrence is near KC, but the drive is enough to give SMU's proximity to Dallas the edge. Advantage: SMU

Media Market: Lawrence media pays attention to Jayhawks, as does the media in the entire state of Kansas and in Kansas City, MO. Dallas media relegates SMU to the backburner, and hte rest of the state only covers SMU if they miraculously beat the #1 team in the country. Advantage: KU times 3

Score: 3-3.

The X-factor: BCS money. KU has it. SMU doesn't.

Those SMU alums are in Dallas, or at least in Texas. Advantage SMU

KU could be in downtown Kansas City (and yes, I've been there many times) and SMU wins this one, hands down.

He is very talented, it would have been nice to have him, but yest TE is one of our strengths and he may not have seen the field right away.
