From Rivals:

The first official visit for Houston Spring Woods wide receiver/safety Russell Roberts was not far from home at SMU, but it looks like the 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect is not ready to name a favorite.

Roberts will be taking more visits that include Tulane this weekend (Jan. 20) and Stephen F. Austin on Jan. 27.

"It was okay," Roberts said about his trip to SMU. "I got to hang out with the players, tour just about everything, and see a bunch of stuff around the campus. My host was Reynaldo Pellerin from Westfield. He was a cool guy."

Roberts had a favorite, but a coaching change has shifted his thought.

"Well, it was Rice," Roberts said about his top team. "I haven't talked to their new coach. They told me they'd offer me after I sent in my admissions paper because you have to be accepted their first. While that was happening, their coach resigned."

As for right now, Roberts says that a decision will come before Signing Day.

"I'll probably do it at the end of the month," he said. "I'm not sure exactly when it will be."

Ran the 40 yard dash: 4.6 seconds (unverified)

From another rivals:

"Russell looks just like Daniel on the football field and is a major prospect," he said. "But he's just not as fast vertically. That's the only difference. Russell could put on 20 to 30 pounds and be a linebacker."

Sounds like a good prospect.

Hold on -- he's a wide receiver who WAS leaning toward Rice when they ran an offense that didn't throw the ball? And now that Rice has hired a coach who has promised to "modernize" the schemes, he's no longer certian? You'd think that for a receiver, the decision to hire Coach Graham down there would be like bringing in Bill Walsh.

he played Safety in high school and his coach and I bet others project him as a LB in college.

The fact that he is still going to go visit SFA indicates that he is looking local. I doubt he comes to SMU.

Not that it really matters, but SFA really isn't any more local than SMU if he's from Houston.

Maybe he's from the Henry Niutei School of Distance-Measuring.
