QB Pierre Beasley from Houston committed to Rice. Rated 3 stars. Had about 5 offers including also Duke, Memphis, Tulsa and Utah St. No. 25 Dual Threat QB in the Nation. Plus Illinois was trying to get him to visit as recently as last week. Very nice commitment for Rice who face the daunting task of transitioning from a wishbone offense to a spread when they don't have spread wide receivers or throwing QBs. From my understanding they promised to enginner a Vince Young style offense around Beasley's talents. Pretty impressive stats-161 completions on 245 attempts 34 TDs plus 618 yards rushing and another 20 TDs, 24-3 as a starter losing in the State 5A semifinals when he was sidelined with an injury in the second half and his team lost 17-14. Plus a 4.0 core GPA to top it off. Perfect for Rice especially in this transition. Now they can move Armstrong to Receiver where he belongs.

It is easier to promise things when you have no track record or players fitting a proposed new system.

True but Major Appelwhite was a Graduate Assistant and QB coach at Texas so he probably has the blueprints.

Somehow I think that VY offense has more to do with VY and the offense.

Rice is a great education.. cograts to him. Not sure why it matters to us unless we were going after him though..

It matters to us because he's a very talented player. No, he's not Vince Young, but he's pretty big, pretty strong and pretty fast. Assuming everything goes well for him, I feel pretty confident suggesting he will be playing against us in a couple of years.

well see in the long run about coaching. What we do know is they got two coaches who have been rated among the Top 25 recruiters by Rivals in the past plus Applewhite and others with strong recruiting credentials. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the youngest staff in the country. That's why its a very interesting staff to me-I'm just curious to see how they do.

I am amazed as to how much younger the coaches get every year I get older.

That is an impressive pickup for Rice, could help the program. The promising thing about this is that we have at least two big name players in McCann and Burley who have skills like this. GO PONIES!
