According to ESPN, SMU is ranked ahead of TCU.

And here's how they fare in the MWC, second to last.

Guys, not to be the scrooge here, but ESPN Insider or whatever they call themselves has to either be on something or we have a guy inside (no pun intended). Ain't no friggin' way Rivals is THAT wrong.
Look at the scores on most of the recruits for both schools on ESPN. The most repeating number is 3.0, probably equivalent to Rivals no star (i.e. they have no clue what end is up with this kid or that kid because they have not evaluated). I guarantee you that TCU is getting screwed in this evaluation on the Niutei kid. He might not be Eddie Jones (Kilgore...UT commit), but he ain't a 3.0 either.

I don't generally camp out about this or that recruiting site. I figure the general point is that the higher rated kids are that way for good reason most of the time, and vice-versa, most of the time. But this is ridiculous. Waters is a grade-problem, by any measure, not simply SMU's gauntlet. HOW/WHY is he on this list????

They seem pretty right on with all other services 1-25...

Scout.com has us ranked higher, but that site is very delayed ...

FYI - based on ESPN Insider's rankings system, William & Mary, San Jose State, and UNLV are in the top 20. I am pretty sure thats not really the case. Seems a little strange for them to be beating teams like Nebraska and Miama. Point being, I would not read too much into their rankings.

Don't sell W&M short. I'm sure the draw of playing your college ball at a Div. 9 school and living in Colonial Williamsburg would be quite a draw to a lot of players. :wink:

William and Mary is 1-AA, not Division 9. They play Maryland next year in addition to 1-AA heavyweights like James Madison and Delaware. Their coach Jimmye Laycock is a one of the most senior coaches in the Country (who as I understand it was offered the SMU job ahead of Cavan and turned us down). Their admission criteria for athletes are about the same as SMU's. Its considered a public Ivy League school. William and Mary is still the Rodney Dangerfield of Virginia. Even Steely Dan has poked fun at them. Williamsburg is a pretty neat place to live. I went to law school there and it is a nice place. There's a Busch brewery outside of town and they still give out a free sample (it used to be three free samples). Alumni include Jon Stewart, Glenn Close, Judd Hirsch, 5 former U.S. Presidents, and a few CEO's.

East, you don't have to defend William & Mary vis-a-vis their education or alumni. We all know they are good. It's just...well, c'mon man, they do NOT have a top-20 recruiting class. Somebody is on the sauce at ESPN.

For those of you who don't know, ESPN purchased the Insiders (which became the Scout) network some time ago. So they're now one and the same.

The inconsistencies you may observe between ESPN and Scout.com are probably just due to their Web flunkies having to sort through a lot of information, which when it comes in isn't always accurate or consistent.

Actually, the really funny part is the software having deleted Jimmye's last name, which starts with l, then a, then y, then a c, then an o, then another c, then a k.

You guys should be proud. This is probably the only football board in Texas with two regular posters that have W&M Law degrees. And EastStang is correct in his defense not just of W&M, but of Tribe football (though of course they don't out-recruit Nebraska). Many times in recent years, Sagarin has had W&M ahead of SMU.
