Another fantastic job! I know a whole lot of work goes into preparing this, thank you so much for the effort!
I found this Todd Dodge quote very interesting: “I just think that, in general, what’s going on with Phil Bennett and his staff is they’re building that program the right way. They come in and recruit our kids, and they look at a player and they never ask who else is recruiting him. That’s something we appreciate a lot. So many schools come in and want to know who else is recruiting a player, like they’re going to let other schools determine who they offer a scholarship to. The SMU coaches are extremely professional, and they come in and analyze a guy themselves, and determine whether a guy can play for them or not. That’s something that’s rare, and it’s something we appreciate, because not every kid can play in every system."
I agree, that sort of caught my attention when he told me that. Sometimes, a coach will say something great about a player or a coach or a school, and it's obvious he's never met that player/coach or been to that school. Coach Dodge seemed very genuine, and I know Coach Sawyer (who recruits that area) thinks very highly of him, both professionally and personally.
I haven't read it all yet (thanks for taking care of my Thursday for me, guys), but it looks like another fantastic Roundup.
I especially love the design .... THE DALLAS EVENING TIMES? Very nice! ![]() Looks like I know what I'll be doing the rest of the morning! Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
What I liked in the Roundup was the players the HS coaches compared their guys to. Used to be we'd get guys who made their coaches think of a current college guy -- these coaches bring up the names of guys like John Elway (Rhodes), Reggie Bush (McCann), Jevon Kearse (Sowe), Roy Williams (Jones). Not one of them said their guy was at the level of those guys, but those are some big-time guys to bring up. If they can make fans draw those same comparisons against college competition, that will mean they're turning out to be pretty good players.
I can't begin to comprehend the amount of time and work that goes into a project like this. Thank you for doing this report, and for operating this site. Especially for out-of-town Mustangs like me, this is an invaluable source of info. Keep up the great work.
