Interesting note from the NFL Combine

Granted, Vince Young wasn't running, but I still found this interesting:

"Only two quarterbacks, Bruce Gradkowski of Toledo and Ingle Martin of Furman, ran sub-4.75s."

And that's on what's thought to be a pretty fast track in Indianapolis.

....maybe Vince did not understand the directions?

Reggie McNeil 4.37, Brad Smith 4.53. Both ran as QB's though they may play different positions in the pros. Other side note Reggie Harrel from TCU ran a 4.66, I could have sworn he was faster than that.

Actually the track at Indianapolis is said to be quite slow - which is why a lot of guys don't like to run on it. And because they all want to save their best for pro day

Interesting - I've heard exactly the opposite, that they put in a very fast track in order to induce as many athletes as possible to run there. The fear (and rightly so) is that too many athletes will simply tell the teams "come see me at my school's pro day," making the evaluation process much longer and more expensive. I read someplace that the NFL ordered that the old track/surface be ripped out and replaced with a fast track, just for that purpose.

They are considering the new field turf to be faster than the old turf at the RCA dome, as times are down by an average of about .1s across all positions from last year.

I heard a new report on ESPN radio over the weekend that Young scored the lowest score on the quarterback intelligence test at the combine and that some scouts are seriously considering whether he should be a top 10 pick as a QB.

Make me a pro team owner and I will take a chance on him. The advantage that VY has is that if he does not understand the system and has to ad lib, he goes 80 yards for a TD.

That's not true. I was watching the combine yesterday on the NFL channel. McNeal ran a 4.4 something and a 4.3 something in his two runs. Vick ran in the 4.4s. Also, Whithurst and Cutler also ran low 4.7s. I think Whithurst may have been in the 4.6 range?

I was watching on Sunday, maybe that story was written about the QBs who were out there on Saturday? I think maybe group 1-3 went saturday and 4-6 Sunday?

Yea, I second those statements. I was also watching them run live, by the way all of Cutler's throws were right on the money, he is going to be good!

You're right. I think the note I saw was from a specific group of QBs running, not all of them.

We'll see how good Cutler is when he's got Big Nasty's trying to kill him in a collapsing pocket and still has to throw to a WR.. big difference.
