As if there weren't enough talented quarterbacks in Texas for 2007, add one more to the list. North Richland Hills (Texas) Richland signal caller Joe Kemp, who describes himself as a "classic" thrower is picking up huge amounts of interest from several schools.
Richland quarterback Joe Kemp is sorting through all the mail. The 6-foot-3, 217-pound Kemp has added letters from between 30 and 40 schools already as he waits on his first offer. Alabama, Notre Dame, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, SMU and TCU are just a few schools showing interest early. A couple of schools are standing out.
"I'd say A&M could be called the early favorite," Kemp said. "I also want to visit TCU though because I've always been a fan of them all my life. I also grew up a Texas fan and you usually swear off A&M. Then I go there and I love the place."
Kemp took a visit to A&M for their Night of Champions and enjoyed his visit thoroughly. He's also been to SMU for a junior day.
"Arizona and Oklahoma State have been sending a lot of handwritten mail," Kemp said. "I'm going to try to make it there and also to Alabama for their spring practice. Then on April 22, I'm going to the NIKE Training Camp."
As a junior, he may not have collected honors but he was also in the district with top seniors like Christian Ponder (Florida State), Greg McElroy (Alabama), and Steven Headley (Wyoming).
If you ask Kemp, it's not about individual statistics.
"This coming year, I definitely want to leave Richland with a winning record and get to the playoffs," he said. "That's really above anything else. I could care less how many touchdowns I throw. I just want to get to the playoffs and leave on a good note."
