Direct quote from him in an article posted yesterday on Rivals:

"My five schools are Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arizona and Baylor," he said. "The school I pick will come out of these five."

Time to move on...

published reports also indicate that his Mamma is pushing him to go to UT or Kansas.

it was time to move on 6 weeks ago. I'm not saying we should have given up completely, just moved on and not waited for his decision in any way before we take other commitments.

Where is all this love that SMU was supposedly going to get from area (see DISD) coaches when Tubbs was hired as head coach of SMU?

Oh oh...I see...the syllogism was not "hire coach, then get love"; it was "don't hire coach, then don't get love". It was all stick and no carrot.

So tell me again why Tubbs is coach?

And before anybody goes after me for blaming Tubbs for this...please do not infer that from my comments. What I am implying is that this nameless group of area coaches (again, see DISD) never intended to advocate SMU because a) they can't, and b) it wouldn't really matter anyway. So, the selling point for hiring Tubbs that he would receive some dispensation from area coaches in recruiting was either a) wrong or b) really more of an implied threat that somebody made into a logical fallacy, not a selling point.

Hey Darrell, the least you could do is stay in Texas. That way, Stallion could point out that UT has yet another top recruit...albeit basketball, but the readers of this thread get the point, I am sure.

You know if it wasn't for Jimmy Tubbs resurrecting some hope in the Inner City for SMU after your buddy Ken Pye decided to make SMU an Ivy League program we probably would have about 15 straight losing seasons in Basketball too.

Alright, Mr. Ed, I'll bite.

I'm not arguing with you about Pye anymore. God rest his soul, I personally liked the man, and I don't care if you didn't. I don't blame him for the demise of the SWC, and I personally think that is where the most damage was done to SMU post death-penalty. That is my point of view. You have yours. Next.

What hope for SMU within the inner city are you talking about? That's my point. I think that it was a mirage...or a snow job. Now, I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. But it seemed to me that the primary reason he was hired was that he could recruit the heavy programs in Dallas. In fact, to be less than diplomatic about it, I think that his hiring was predicated on it. The sell-job to the hiring committee looked a little like "if you hire him, they will come".

But what I think it was really was, "if you don't hire him, we can guarantee you that they won't come". I concede that he has only had a couple of years here (and already a NCAA investigation), so perhaps the jury is still out. However, I think the truth of the matter is that he is a very average coach and unfortunately, his coaching peers from the Dallas area (DISD) really don't have as much to say about his success as perhaps was thought.

Then again, as I said, I could be wrong. But if I am, show me something that suggests I am. Believe me, I don't come by cynicism willingly. So show me I am wrong.

Good luck getting his girlfriend into his room at Baylor. Do they have special sleeping rules at Baylor for athletes? And, I won't make any catty remarks about bullet proof vests, either. Kansas, be sure to take those sea sickness pills with you, I hear those wheat prairies can make you feel a little green in the gills. UT. I don't know that burnt orange makes you look like a big rotting carrot. OU, well I hear the cows are pretty accommodating in the spring. Arizona. Hope the coach doesn't make you do roadwork outdoors in September. Heat is unbearable and of course those scorpions. Now, imaging instead going to the school in your hometown with the hottest women on the face of the planet. Red and blue are great basic all american colors for a future All American. But if you want to go and get seasick or look like a big rotting carrot, that is of course your right.

I presume he is talking about these guys: Bryan Hopkins (Lincoln), Quinton Ross (Kimball), Jeryl Sasser (Kimball), Willie Davis (Lincoln), Damon Hancock (Lancaster), Justin Isham (Lancaster). He and Dement got more Dallas players here in 5 years than SMU had in the previous 15. When Tubbs left, Dement had no interest at all South of the Trinity. Thats not sour grapes, just true. Tubbs almost got George Odufuwa from Kimball this past Fall, lost out to Arizona State. Thats the inner city hope and its valid. As for expecting an automatic pipeline, that never was the expectation of mine or many people who follow it. If you expected an instant pipeline, you imagined it, because no one promised it, nor could they.
