Mickey Dollens heaved his personal best in the shot put and the Lady Bruin 3,200-meter relay team finished second to top the list of accomplishments for the Bartlesville High track program Friday.
The Bruins and Lady Bruins placed in several events Friday at Ponca City in just their second competition of the season.
“We did much better this time around,†said first-year head coach Ashley Henley. “It was a good meet for us.â€
None more so than for Dollens.
The senior thrower unleashed a mammoth toss of 50-feet-10-and-three-quarters-inches to earn the silver medal with his furthest-ever throw.
Dollens, who has signed a football scholarship with Southern Methodist University, also placed sixth in the shot put. He hurled the platter 137-feet-even.

LOL...I bit my tongue and opted out before posting something like, "he'd better enjoy track & field while he can..."

SMU does have a track team...but Mikey would have to get a sex change to join it.

"Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer. " So much for the gratuitous Monkee reference.

I'm just waiting to hear "Oh, Mickey, You're So Fine!" by Tony Basil on the P.A. system at Ford!
However, is his name pronounced 'MICK-ee' or 'MIKE-ee'? Seems that I recall Coach Phil saying 'MIKE-ee' during the signing day gathering last February.

Michael Carter could do both.... anyway people we are talking about 50'10" here, which is very, very, very average. Lets hope he's a much better football player.

BTW MIchael Carter Jr, is a young high school Sophmore at Red Oak and has already thrown better than Dollens at 52-4 which is 6th in the area as only a Sophmore. I think two of Michael's daughters won the State Championship-one ended up at Rice and one at UT I think. To show you how unreal Michael Carter was as a high schooler-25 years ago Michael Sr. threw about 30 feet farther with a throw of 81 feet 3 1/2 the National High School Record.
