Nathan [deleted] likes SMU offer, expects more

Postby Lotus » Sun Apr 23, 2006 11:13 pm

Rivals has a story on Allen QB Nathan [deleted]. Some of the highlights:

* Nathan [deleted] has an offer from SMU and heavy interest from others. The 6-foot-3, 194-pounder missed parts of his junior season with an broken bone in his tibia, but he still was able to earn honorable mention all-district honors. Still his name doesn't get talked about with the likes of Mallet, Lee and others in the Lone Star State....

* [deleted] threw for 1,416 yards and 11 scores in 2005, which has prompted SMU to already offer him a scholarship. The Mustangs and coach Eric Roark have made a very big impression on him, but the list of suitors still remains pretty long.

"The SMU offer is really nice," he said. "I'm talking a whole lot to Vanderbilt and Iowa. Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Colorado State are the other teams that have really been sending me a lot of stuff."
But after a strong performance on Saturday don't be surprised if you see more teams travel up to the north Dallas suburb and get involved.

This is the type of player that we need to bring into our program. He is a QB with lots of talent and good leadership skills. Us being the first offer is huge, it not only gives us an edge right now, but he will always revert back to us as his first offer. I think in this case it could lead to a signing. SMU is on the way back up, a talented QB would be huge. SMU is starting to put the right type of talent around a player like [deleted], last year's signing of Martin, this year Burley and McCann. Already have Chase, these are just to name a few. [deleted] could start this class off right if he committed, he could help bring in more big-name players and playmakers. GO PONIES!!!

I expect to have the Blog come to the Tom Landry Classic this year to see Nathan. This could be the year that Allen beats SLC for the state title with Nathan at the helm. That and my brother tells me that the Blog is a big fan of [deleted] as well.

Who doesn't love [deleted]?

Unfortunately, my father in law, the former member of the Carroll ISD board of trustees, will not allow me to root against the Dragons.

Sorry! Slow day. Maybe we should take a poll, uh make that a survey, on whether our wives would cheer for [deleted] or would they just be indifferent.

Maybe the ladies at SMU should start a club and call it Chicks for ___ to see if that gets him here.

Scout.com says he now has offers from SMU and Rice and just got an offer from Baylor.
The story also says that academics will play a big role in his decision, and that he not only wants to graduate, but also to get a master's degree.

Now let me think.

What was our graduation rate last year?

If I recall is was 100%, and I think we offer master degrees.

Yeah, but Rice is a fantastic school, too, and Baylor offers graduate degrees. I think we're in for a dogfight with this kid.
Getting an Allen HS teammate or two wouldn't hurt. We also need to have DeMyron visit his alma mater a few times, decked out in his SMU colors (assuming that's legal).

He would be the perfect fit at SMU, he could come here and challenge for the starting QB spot right away. SMU football is only improving, we have a chance this year to go to a bowl game, and by 2007 we could be one of the top teams in CUSA. Bennett is doing a great job, our recruiting classes are starting to come around, and [deleted] would be the type of player who could help elevate SMU to the next level. GO PONIES!!!

I know this is a good story to sell, but I am hoping that this is hte last offseason for at least the next four years, that we can talk about a kid coming into school and challenging for the starting QB position. If Willis lives up to his potential, then we have four good years ahead of us and Nathan can come in and play as a redshirt junior.
