How much is Jazzy getting out of this deal from whichever school DA chooses?

I have a friend who played college basketball and has two sons that are playing in college now, with a third son to be a freshman basketball player next year in college. He has been thru all of the AAU summer leagues for about the last 10 years. He has nothing to do with SMU and has told me that SMU needs to stay as far away from Shady and his AAU coach as we can. He said it is unbelievable what is going on with these two. Hands are out big time.

That is what I have heard from folks at the University of Cincinnati basketball program up here. Just wondering what the going price is these days for aau coaches.

If "everybody" knows that there is something going on here that is against the rules, shouldn't somebody notify the NCAA so that they can look into this?

Did he pass the TAKS test? Might actually be a reason he has waited this long.

Standardized test you must pass to graduate high school in Texas.

I thought that test read like this:
1. "Spell the word TEXAS."
2. "Complete this phrase from Texas history. Remember the _______________."
3. "Did you sign your name to a committment letter to a: UT, b: A&M or c: TT d: none of the above.
If you answered question 3 with the letters a, b, or c, just sign your name to the bottom of the test, you passed. Otherwise continue on.
4. Explain in three thousand words or less Dante's Inferno.
5. Name each and every president of the United States and what years they served.

Is that about how the test goes?

SOC's Arthur reschedules news conference

02:14 PM CDT on Monday, May 8, 2006
By KATE HAIROPOULOS / The Dallas Morning News

Darrell Arthur became overwhelmed by the pressure of picking the right college to continue his basketball career, causing him to cancel a news conference scheduled for this afternoon, said Jazzy Hartwell, Arthur's AAU coach and main adviser.

The South Oak Cliff McDonald's All-American and SportsDay's player of the year was expected to pick among Baylor, Kansas and LSU.

"I'm worried about him," Hartwell said. "He's trying not to hurt anybody's feelings."

Arthur will meet with his mother, Sandra, his grandparents, and Hartwell this afternoon to try to reach a final decision, Hartwell said.

A news conference is tentatively scheduled for noon Tuesday at the Moorland YMCA in Oak Cliff, where Arthur grew up playing and where Hartwell works.

A sign on the YMCA's front door announced that the news conference scheduled for 12:30 p.m. today had been cancelled. Some television crews didn't learn of the news until they arrived and started setting up equipment.

Arthur has struggled with his decision for some time. Most elite seniors signed letters of intent in November.

Arthur, ranked the No. 16 senior in the nation and the No. 3 power forward by Rivals.com, said all along that he would wait until the end of his senior season to make his choice.

But after leading SOC to back-to-back Class 4A state titles and earning his second title-game MVP honor in March, Arthur seemed no closer to a decision.

At times, his exhaustive recruitment seemed to include everyone and favor no one. Late Sunday afternoon, SOC coach James Mays II and Arthur's mother said that Arthur was on the verge of making a decision and today's press conference was confirmed.

Arthur is a smooth, agile forward who can play above the rim and run the floor. He played his best in big games, which he dominated for stretches.

I feel for the guy. Must be hard to look at all of these people who want you to play for them and have to tell them, "Well, you know...I guess I should have studied harder." Especially when they want to comp your education (and probably a whole lot of other stuff if the scuttlebutt mentioned earlier about hands out is true).
Man.

Must be a real bummer.
