I know it's not a revenue sport, but a state championship 3 years in a row in an individual sport is pretty impressive... SMU signee, too.

Marcus' Francis wins 5A tennis singles title

AUSTIN – Pavi Francis warmed up at the Lakeway World of Tennis for one hour before her Class 5A girls singles final. The Flower Mound Marcus senior wanted to be ready for anything, and the extra practice did little to take away from her mission.

Exuding confidence and utilizing potent groundstrokes, Francis routed Richardson Pearce sophomore Anastasia Zavgorodni, 6-1, 6-0, in less than an hour to capture her third consecutive Class 5A girls singles championship.

Francis, an SMU signee, is the first girls player to win three consecutive titles in the state's highest classification since Houston Spring Woods' Daryl Gralka accomplished the feat in 1969-71.

"I went out there with my 'A' game, and I was determined to end my high school career on a high note," Francis said. "I was glad to have two other finals under my belt, and that helped me stay calm when I needed to on big points."

Sounds like a great pick up and an example of recruiting in your back yard.

She never lost a match after her freshman year at Marcus. In fact, her coach said she lost less than 10 sets in the last three years. That's impressive!!!!

I'm surprised she's even bothering going to college. I figure she'd be hitting the WTA Circuit. She is a great pick up for us.

10 sets in three years?
That's absolutely unreal. Welcome to SMU.
And congratulations to Coach Howarth on what appears to be a fantastic signing.

I don't know much about tennis, but I know 10 sets is a small percentage of the amount played in 4 years. Congrats to her, and welcome to smu.
