From today's DMN:

DeKalb quarterback/running back Terrance Ganaway said he orally committed to SMU.

All I can find is that he was the Associated Press 2A Offensive Player of the Year. 6-1, 190. 296 carries, 2335 yards, 22 TDs.

What's going on here? Please post more information about this guy. I know that someone has the recruiting subscription to a board with info.

I hope that he is fast.

One Big Man.
The LB that will be here in August
and now a RB/QB.

This is pretty early for Mr. Bennett and staff to announce verbals. Things must be going well on the recruiting trail.

Go Mustangs

All I could find was that he was having a heck of a year until he ran into the buzzsaw that was Celina in the playoffs, which almost completely shut him down. Looks like the offense was Galaway and not much else. I did find one article that listed him with the best backs in the state.

He was named Offensive Player of the Year on a All State Team that included Phillip Burley. That is at least a good thing.

As I understand it, hasn't UT and A&M almost completely filled their classes. Maybe these kids are saying, we can't go there, let's see if we can get SMU some momentum by declaring early.

I’ll play anywhere they put me at. I just want to play football. I bring good quickness and I can make plays on the run. -DeKalb athlete Terrance Ganaway

SMU (solid verbal)
Louisiana Tech
North Texas
Sam Houston St.
Stephen F. Austin
Tulsa

Also says he attended the College Station NIKE Training Camp 2006: College Station --4/22/2006
But I don't have access.

Ganaway was verified at 6-0 199. He was tested with the QBs rather than RBs. Ran a 4.64(6th out of 36 QBs-that would have been tied for 28th out of 42 RBs), 21 Bench(tied for 2nd among 46 QBs), 4.68 Shuttle(41st out of 46 QBs-would have been the third slowest out of 52 RBs), 30 Vetical(tied 15th out of 46 QBs. Recruited as an athlete not necessarily as a RB. SMU was the only offer listed among above teams.

Very nice! Now let's just hold on to him until February.

Speed wise, how is a 4.6 for a safety?
Thanks in advance.

Not great, but certainly not bad. A good safety with 4.6 speed can get drafted, if he's smart, instinctive, right place at the right time, good tackler, etc.

Yeah, especially 4.64. TCU seems to always recruit for speed.

if he were a DB he would been 21st out of 46 DBs in the Forty and 45th out of 51 DBs in the Shuttle. If this assessment were accurate he might be classified as borderline SS speed.

Some other notes I found:

--> State 2A Offensive Player if the Year (scout.com, texaspreps.com, San Antonio Express News, KMID TV) at RB
--> 6-1, 190 296 carries, 2,335 yards, 22 TDs.
--> District 16-AA Most Valuable Player (QB)
