honestly I am getting extremely annoyed w/ all yall talking about how fast an OL or a DT run the 40 in..

IT DOESN'T MATTER...

Talk about their squat, power clean, hang clean, and then their bench..
If you have to talk about their athletic ability i.e. running.. talk about their vertical leap or shuttle..

B/c their verticle, squat, and power/hang clean shows explosion in their hips which inturn creates betting blocking

Their shuttle shows that they can get from a 3 point stance to the defense quickly i.e. pulling guards...

The 40 is very low on the list for attributes for a OL and DT..

If a DL has to run 40 yards, we're in trouble anyway.

Only silly people like NFL scouts care about 40 time. It is not like their jobs depend on picking the right players. I am really surprised the Texans picked Mario Williams (6'7" & 300), I think he ran about 4.6. Oh yeah, Freeney runs about 4.4, the Colts should have looked at his average squat numbers.

The Colts are far more concerned with the speed of Freeney's burst off the ball -- the first few yards -- than they are about his time in an entire 40. Yes, he might be able to chase someone down, and then the SportsCenter guys will ooooh and aaaaah over how fast he is.

The Texans didn't draft Williams because of his 40 time. They drafted a combination of speed and size and strength.

The "silly" NFL execs who focus only on 40 times are the kind who draft non-players like Renaldo Nehimiah (San Francisco) and Carl Lewis (Dallas). Speed is fine, but it's useless if the guy can't also play the game of football.

40 time for a DL is more relevant than 40 time of a OL
