on the internet which are discussed in a private Texas Tech Rivals site. Apparently it is Dereck Shaw who was a 4 star QB coming out of high school-committed to Miami before backing out to sign with Arizona St. Will now walkon at Tech. Presumably if he enrolled at ASU he will have to sit out a year. Anybody know the status of his eligibility?

So if he accepted the scholarship to Arizona State, he'd have to sit for a year, but by walking on at Tech, he gets instant eligibility? I thought the rules were the same for walk-ons and scholarship guys. Not true?

Stallion, look at pages 18-20. It does not look like he meets any of the exceptions. Of course, this is assuming he went to ASU last year and made progress toward a degree. I don't think it matters if he is a walk-on or not, as he got an athletic scholarship at ASU. Is he a baseball player? I haven't heard of him if he is one. Or, does Tech not have a scholie?

Lawyers try not to assume-its objectionable-my issue was whether he in fact ever attended ASU

If it is Derek Shaw then he will be sitting out this year. Derek committed to Miami and decided that it was simply too far from his mom in California. Signed and joined the ASU team but was quickly dropped down the depth chart falling to 3rd string behind Sam Keller and Rudy Carpenter. He spent last season whining on the sideline and rumor had it that he was returning to a JC or D-1AA in California for this year.
From the reports I heard, when he got to ASU he proved he was more a product of his high school system than anything else. My bet...considering the hype around Graham Harrell, Derek never sees the field except in mop up duty

He is on their official 2005 roster. I also assumed that you had looked at it.

I totally agree with you. Who cares about who is transferring to Tech.

Stallion how would you have titled your post if this had been SMU?
Desperate SMU sinks to new low chasing former HS standout, proven to be a loser and quiter at two Division I universities"
I can´t beleive the diffrerences in the tone of your posts when commenting on schools like Tech and your own university!

Why do some of you care if we have one or two threads that have minimal SMU impact? Just go to the next thread. We have threads on every recruit signed this year. Lord knows we talk about every significant occurrence in SMU recruiting.

Stallion likes us to know who got away and who's going to be going to schools that we play. Nothing wrong with that. If you don't like these posts don't read them.

I thought Tech was on our schedule through 2010. I really don't give a damn whether you care or not-go tear up some NTSU, Arkansas St and Sam Houston State Monument fans if you don't like it.

TT is on our schedule for the foreseeable future and despite my belief that Derek Shaw is a bum he could be a bum lining up against on Ponies in the very near future.

Since some people like to post all the recruiting news, good or bad, that relates to SMU, which seemingly includes SMU's opponents, where is the post about UNT's best recruit from their last class (who they expected to contribute this year) simply not showing up?
They got another kid that is being held up by "paperwork." I can only assume that means some kind of grade issue. Must be pretty serious if they can't clear that up before practice starts.
