New Texas Hoops Top 30Players SMU is involved with are:
2. Anthony Randolph, Woodrow Wilson-SMU appears to be in a long list of teams-not prominently mentioned as a favorite. Longshot. 10. John Roberson, Plano-Tech and SMU lead with OU and Kansas St among other favorites. Many others actively recruiting. 12. D'Walyn Roberts. Ducanville. offers from Baylor and Tech. Also looking at A&M, Cinncinati, Miami and Wake Forest. I wonder why he only has 2 offers? Suspicious. SMU maybe a longshot. No. 13 Ronnie Moss North Crowley offers from SMU and Utah but favorites are Ole Miss, and OU 17.Kris Richard 6-5 Beaumont Ozen Favorites("teams I know I want to visit" are ASU(offer),SMU(offer),Virgina(offer) along with Wichita St.. Rice is another who has offered. Others actively recruiting him are OU,Cincy, and A&M 18. Ryan Harp-SMU COMMITMENT 25. Anthony Thompson 6-10, 190 from Houston Klien Forest -Favorites are A&M, SMU and Baylor. No reported offers yet. 27. Alex Malone-SMU COMMITMENT 29. Brett Royster 6-8, 220 Arlington Martin interested in A&M, ARK-LR, Ball St. SMU, TCU and Missouri St.. No reported offers yet Not bad for such a late start, but we've been in this position before-but "close only counts in ..." I wonder if Royster and/or Thompson could be some of the big men recently seen on the SMU campus? Good to see Alex Malone get upgraded from No. 69 to No. 27. Roberson dropped from 5 to 10-probably because he's only 5-11. Harp dropped from 17 to 18. Our previous commtment from the Richardson kid is not in the Top 30.
John Roberson is the key recruit. Commits from good PGs lead to commitments from other very good players. Not worried about Doherty on recruiting trail: his reported creativity, energy, evaluation skills and steadfastness are legendary. But getting a good PG helps a ton
I would say Anthony Randolph is the key recruit, but to suggest that the competition will be stiff is an understatement. I would say if he's a guy who has some real interest in getting an education, we can stay in the hunt. If he sees himself -- either right or wrong -- as a "one year of college and then off to the NBA" guy, then i would think our chances will shrink exponentially.
So SMU hasn't offered the Roberts kid? Are grades an issue? I don't follow basketball recruiting that closely, but I've heard great things about Kris Richard and his athleticism and potential.
yeah Pony-Fan I only had about a couple of hundred posts last year about basketball Recruiting. Did one just like the one above too. But who knows we might just have a Coach that makes known as that cheerleader Positive Stallion. instead of a coach who is largely bottom-fishing. I report everything and anything both positive and negative-if the tenor is negative in my recruiting reports then you can rest assured that the general consensus of those who know what they are talking about. But remember as tmustangp always says I don't know anything I don't read. Of course he didn't even know who Anthony Randolph was so I take that as a compliment that at least I can read.
Given Doherty's reputation and history, I think recruiting will quickly become a lot more fun to watch. A rollercoaster but quite interesting.
IIRC, he was only at Notre Dame for 15 months (before Carolina hired him) but in that time managed to bring in two McDonald's High School All Americans (Ryan Humphrey and Chris Thomas). While I don't expect similar spectacular results at SMU immediately, I feel pretty sure he will aim for the stars and go after the highly rated kids (assuming there are no grades issues) at full throttle, while at the same time having multiple back-up plans in place. By everyone's account he is someone who takes recruiting very seriously, spends lots of time on it, and considers it the make or break lifeblood of a program in the long run. Obviously, given competition, we will miss on a lot of those 4 and 5 star kids to Big 12 and the like schools, esp in the first year or two. But just need to have a breakthrough or two in recruiting, mix that with an improvement on the court, see increasing interest in the program from students alums and fans, and all of a sudden SMU would become known as a program with big momentum. Which is where kids want to be.
To Anthony Randolph:
You're the 2nd best player in Texas and you have a chance to stay in your hometown, where all of your family can come watch every game you play. Your coach can be Matt Doherty, former National Coach of the Year (and he played with MJ!). You could get a great educatoin. All at SMU. Sincerely, Every SMU fan on the face of the planet
P.S. Our women are hot. Just come take a looksie. I fixed your typo ![]() Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.

Misquote.. I have never said that.. i say repeatedly what I will say below: wow.. stallion.. again you proved how childess you are.. thanks to a few friends of mine, i was able to hear about your cheapshot.. actually I knew who Anthony Randolph was, because I read about him, I just forgot his name.. would I be asking about him if I didn't know about him? I don't think so... Hopefully one of these days you will realize that the SMU fans are tired of your negativity.. again if anyone reads this I am not a complete loser who sits on pony fans on sat night.. i unfortunately still work overnights at the ticket..I just have to throw that in b/c I would much rather be drunk at a bar
