one of the Top openers in Class 2A was No. 8 New Boston v. No. 18 Dekalb led by SMU commit Terrance Ganaway. New Boston held on winning 38-35. Ganaway apparently played both QB and RB. He ended with 179 yards rushing on 33 carries with TD runs of 4 yards, 15 yards and a 2 point conversion. Also had some reported passes of 31, 22, and 37 although I don't know his passing statistics. Reports from observers at the game were that the defense was stacked to stop Ganaway. Last year Ganaway ran for over 2,400 yards and was Class 2A Player of the Year.

Terrance Ganaway had 169 yards rushing on an undetermined numberof carries with TD runs of 5 and 3 yards in a 43-7 victory by Dekalb over Queen City. Ganaway also threw an 8 yard TD pass.

6.3 yards per carry -- not bad!

not great either in 2A. The top prospects coming from 2A who have made it bigtime often have been closer to 10 ypc. A 2A team should be no match for a great Division 1A player who should dominate.

That surprises me a little if only because a legitimate Division I RB prospect still has to run behind a 2A line.

A couple of things:
DeKalb runs double tights a lot and our line is really pretty small.
DeKalb's offense:
C - Michael Davis 196 SR
G - T.J Ceynar 218 SO
G - Rodney Payne 220 JR
T - Blake Stone 186 SR
T - Devon Beaird 209 JR
TE - Tyler Anderson 188 SR
TE - Zach Jones 189 SO
Our line is outsized in nearly every game we play, but terrance nearly always gets his. The only game I have ever seen that Terrance did not have a good game was in the playoffs last year when perennial powerhouse, Celina, kicked our butts 53-7. DeKalb had 62 yds of total offense and Terrance had 64 yds rushing and a TD if that tells you anything.
Also, DeKalb only has 24 kids on varsity this season, with 10 being Sr's. Pretty much 9 kids play both ways for the entire game, including Terrance, who also plays free safety. Just as a comparison, when DeKalb played #8 New Boston in the first game of the season, NB had 27 Sr's on varsity, and we only have 24 kids. Not to mention, everyone coaches their defense strictly to contain Ganaway.
And, Ganaway had 169 yds. rushing last week against Queen City, but as a team, DeKalb had 420. So, as you can see, we are very run oriented, but are trying not to put the entire load on Terrance. He plays about 1/3 of his plays at each QB, FB and TB.Terrance is a hoss, a leader and can and will play anywhere on the field. You will be very happy in a few years if Terrance does indeed sign with SMU.

Terrance Ganaway had 144 yards on 25 carries as DeKalb hit a last minute FG to beat a good Hughes Springs team(home of the Great Cary Brabham). Ganaway had TD runs of 22 and 9 yards. Once again DeKalb had a big rushing nite and big yards out of other backs which may be a reflection of teams keying on Ganaway.

Last night at Marshall Mavericks Stadium against the San Augustine Wolves, Terrance Ganaway had a huge night. Ganaway had 344 yds. rushing and 4 TD's in only 3 quarters of play. He also returned an interception on a 2 point conversion 97 yds. to paydirt as the DeKalb Bears defeated San Augustine 43 - 12.

that sounds like 2A Player of the Week performance-that's the kind of domination I like to see at that level

Texarkana Gazette article from 9/23/06
Northeast Texas Football: DeKalb’s Ganaway runs for 344 yards Saturday, September 23, 2006 12:59 PM CDT
MARSHALL, Texas—DeKalb’s Terrance Ganaway ran every which way, including loose, against San Augustine here Friday night.
The fleet Ganaway pounded his way to 344 yards rushing and four touchdowns, powering the Bears past the Wolves, 43-12, at a neutral site.
Ganaway, a 205-pound senior, rushed 27 times and scored on runs of 1, 63, 32 and 66 yards for the Bears (3-1). Ganaway also intercepted a pass on a two-point conversion attempt and returned it 97 yards for another 2 points for the Bears.
The Bears amassed 418 yards rushing, and averaged nearly 7.5 yards per carry.
DeKalb’s defense, meanwhile, limited San Augustine (0-4) to only 39 yards rushing, although the Wolves managed 213 yards through the air.
The Bears forced six turnovers, including four fumble recoveries. Victor Rodriguez returned one of those fumbles 29 yards for a DeKalb touchdown.
Blake Hill also scored on a 24-yard run for the Bears.
In Sunday's edition, Ganaway was also named the NE Texas area Player of the Week for this week.
Congrats to Terrance!
