...perhaps this is a question best answered by Stallion. What can we/should we gather from such a signing? What would an analogous football signing be? Granted he's a three star, not a five star, but SMU went head to head with two BCS schools who are each pereniall top 25ers and won out.

Couple this signing with that of Ryan Harp, who had OFFERS from Stanford, ASU, Wake Forest, and TTech, to name a few.

In what, 6 months on the hilltop, Doherty is already doing what PB talked about wanting to do (and still hasn't) in his first press conference however many years ago: sit in the living rooms with these kids and go head to head with the big conference schools and win.

The difference is that Doherty had skins on the wall at two BCS schools at Notre Dame and UNC before his career backpeddled. He can tell those kids that I've been to the mountaintop and we can get there again with your help. Streetcred.

As for Bennett, all he could offer was being a coordinator at a BCS school and that he wants to get the program on the right track. Give Bennett credit for this, he continually fought the good fight to break down the academic restrictions so we could compete for better kids.

I think what he gets recruiting wise could be predicated by how this season closes.
