Women's BB receives another commitmentPer DMN
Alicia Mitcham, 6-1 post from West Mesquite, gives more size in the low block. She can sign in the spring signing period. She'll come in with the FW Dunbar and Rockwall players who signed earlier this month. Really seems like Rhonda is making solid recruiting strides again, especially in Mesquite. Selling a forthcoming practice facility helps.
Mitcham cant sign until next November, she's just a junior.
Good news is she's averaging 20 points per game this year. She was all state and District Defensive MVP as a sophomore, but only scored around 11 ppg. Before next year she'll be one of the top recruits in the state. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
And as was noted today on the Basketball board, they received another recruit from a high school junior, Katie Meador, a 5-10 point guard from Marble Falls. Looks like Orsini has our coaches upping their recruiting these days!

I havent seen that much of Marble Falls, they dont play in our area very often. Meador is pretty tall for a point guard, and she runs the show in a very, very up-tempo offense, they like to run and gun. She was averaging around 14 points per game last I heard, which made her Marble Falls leading scorer at the time. That can fluctuate, though, they have several players that are D1 caliber, their center has already signed to play at New Mexico next year, and their best player may be sophomore guard Morgan Shell, she was the district (27-4A) MVP last year, and pre-season all state. Marble Falls started the season ranked #3 in 4A, not sure where they are now. I dont much more specifically about Meador, she's quick and seems to be hitting at least a couple shots from 3-point range every game. She runs the show on a loaded team, thats the best I can describe her.
I'm not sure why you think Orsini has anything to do with this, he hasnt shown much interest in the womens game. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
He may not show much interest directly in women's basketball, but he is setting the tone for the athletic department by demanding that each program reach the top 25 in their sport. If the goals aren't set high, there is no reason to strive for excellence!
With the greatest of respect, with the exception of the family & friends plan (cell phone's best concept) , fully knowing that Title IX is a NOT an Elective, who really spends more than 5 seconds thinking of who we recruite(d) in women's Bball?

What do you mean you haven't seen "THAT MUCH" of Marble Falls? Where is it? Is that a town, or the name of a HS in/near Dallas? Why do you go to high school girls basketball games? If the next Darrell Arthur is playing there, or the next Sergio Kindle is playing there, I understand. That's not a male-femail differentiation, either .... I just can't name the next female hoops star. They're great players, I'm sure, but scouting high school chicks??? If it's not near Dallas, are you actually making road trips to see these games?
78Pony- There are apparently at least a few, thats why someone started this thread, another person responded, and a 3rd asked me a question. The list of people who spend more than 5 seconds thinking about it would apparently now include yourself, since you went to the trouble of opening a thread clearly title to regard womens basketball, reading the thread, and then responding. I would wager that took you much more than 5 seconds.
Swamp- Marble Falls is a small town in the Hill Country, northwest of Austin. They play in District 27-4A, I believe, which is mostly other small towns like Braunfels. They do occassionally play a tournament in our area. I go to alot of high school tournaments during the Christmas holidays every year, boys and girl. I havent traveled too much for games in recent years, but its not completely out of the question. I visit Austin often because I have a close relative there. Marble Falls is one of the top teams in 4A this year, I saw them play Austin Westlake in their opener, and they ran Westlake out of the gym. I also watch a fair bit of AAU and summer league ball, and that can involve players from all over the state. Its what I enjoy, sorry that its somehow a problem for you, but I dont intend to change. Ponymon- Thats great. Maybe one day he'll even attend a game. That way he might actually SEE the program that he's making descisions over. Wouldnt that be nifty? Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
I agree with you completely Mrydel.
Yes XtC that would be nice. However, I was addressing the NOTICEABLE pickup in Rhonda's recruiting, not Orsini's interest in her particular program. Orsini comes in and all of the sudden Rhonda is getting STATEWIDE recruits. Coincidence? ![]()
Ponymon: I will assume you haven't been paying much attention to women's hoops at SMU. I seem to recall Rhonda fielding teams that have actually reached post season play (more than we can say for her male counterparts during her tenure). I wouldn't relate any improved recruiting to Orsini's arrival...he wasn't here 3 yrs ago when she signed Janielle Dodds, who as I recall was one of our highest rated recruits in years.
Hey, don't take my word for it. Read up on Rhonda's success "before" Orsini for your self: http://smumustangs.cstv.com/sports/w-ba ... nda00.html
I remember Rhonda talking about how difficult it was to recruit kids to play in the WAC, she was really excited about the prospect of moving to CUSA, and the effect it would have on recruiting. Looks like she was right. I would bet that her job has gotten even easier now that we are building a top notch practice facility. Hopefully she can go back to the tourney soon and get beyond the first weekend.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
