According to an article in today's Austin American Statesman, SMU has "expressed interest in signing" Bron Hager. Westlake's fullback. He rushed for 134 yards against San Antonio Jay last weekend and has scored seven touchdowns in Westlake's two playoff games. He is the son of Britt Hager, who was an All-American for UT and played nine years in the NFL.

Hager isn't listed in Rivals. Texas Football says that he had 82 tackles last year as a linebacker.

is anybody sure he's even a Division 1A prospect. Every recruiter in the State knows about Westlake and the only school mentioned is SMU. We'll see.

I will get off my [deleted] and research him since I know the Westlake coach. He taught me history and laughed that I did not cheat.

where did Duke Hasson go to HS? I know I could easily look this up, but smupony94, you've already offered to get off your a##.
For that matter, the LB Cleveland who transferred, wasn't he from Austin as well? Not Westlake either?

I am not a good Westlake Alumnus. If prodded I will do my part.

The San Antonio Express-News says he's 6-1, 210. No speed given.
Of greater interest, he's the son of Britt Hager, the linebacker who is the all-time leading tackler ever at the University of Texas. The fact that Britt's son is a high school senior makes me feel like a geriatric, because it seemed like he played at UT last week, but the old man was one seriously tough SOB. If Junior is anything like his old man, he's one of those hard-nosed tough guys that every team can use. If he bulks up a little (again, going by my memory of his dad) and can run a little, I could see him exploding a wedge on special teams, if nothing else.

Found one guy on-line (who calls himself "ChapFan" -- for the Austin Westlake Chaparrals, so take it for what it's worth) who says Hager has been timed in the 4.5-4.55 range. In addition, he has two younger brothers who also play football, although I have no idea how old they are, what position they play, how good they are, etc.

Uh oh. Just found a rivals-related link (
http://rivals100.rivals.com/cpEvent.asp?Key=12018) that suggests that the Chap fan I quoted before might have been a little optimistic with his speed analysis. Some numbers (which could have been skewed by a slow track, an injury, inclement weather -- whatever) on Hager:
Weight: 6-foot-1
Weight: 210 pounds
40-yard dash: 5.02 seconds
Shuttle speed: 4.32
Bench press: 20 reps
Vertical leap: 29"
