TCU Favorite for UT Transfer Jevan SneedDMN confirms reports that Sneed has asked for his release so he can tranfer this January. TCU reported to be favorite. Other sources mention UH and Art Briles former Coach at his high school Stephenville
So, if he does leave Austin, who's McCoy's backup? I haven't heard a word about Arlington's Sharrod Harris -- did he even enroll at UT?
We know Ryan Perriloux teased UT for months before switching at the last minute to LSU, and I assume Coach February has about 6 other HS all-america QBs down there. I'm just wondering who they are. Even if he gets his release signed by Coach February, he still has to sit out a year, right? Go PONIES!
Call him coach February all you want. But because he had so many good first Wednesday of February's he held up a Crystal something in early January -- that would signal a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!! And remember, Vince Young and Reggie McNeal drew the comparisons in high school and when they were at UT and A&M respectively. The Ags took McNeal. Texas took Young. How did that work out?
That's exactly WHY Coach February held up that trophy -- he recruited Superman. They still have a ton of HS all-america players in Austin, but without Superman .... THREE losses? If Superman had come back for his senior season, the Horns would be in the BCS title game, although perhaps not against Ohio State, because UT would have beaten them earlier this season.
Go PONIES!
And Ohio State's superman is Troy Smith. You and I both agree about recruiting. You need a great nucleus of players, but you need that one guy who is a difference maker, a guy who can put the team on his back. Young did that. Matt Leinart did that. Smith is doing that. Will Justin Willis do that?
Certainly is rationale, fair, and logical. But how did the vaunted Snead do vs. Colt McCoy, who, if I recall, wasn't as highly recruited as Snead nor had as much recruiting service "star" power. No? "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Austin American Statesman also lists Louisville as a possible destination in addition to TCU and UH mentioned above.
My guess is UH - big time passing offense coached by former Stephenville HC Art Briles and several Stephenville QB's have gone there (Kolb and Kendall Briles). TCU is close to home though.
Louisville just got a committment from Chris Simms' little brother, so competition there may be too stiff for him. "Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise."
Smith is having a great year, but he's not carrying his offense like Vince Young did. And Leinart led an offense with Reggie Bush, LenDale White, Dwayne Jarrett, Mike Williams -- maybe it's his lack of wheels, the ability to create a play our of just freaky athletic ability, but I never saw Leinart in the "Superman" category. He was an absolutely sensational college QB, and might well enjoy great success in the NFL (if the Cardinals can ever put together a good line in front of him). Young had good athletes around him, too, but he made many of the big plays by himself. On the ATHLETIC FREAK chart, he's good, but he's not Young-good.
I hear this arguement often that Young made many of the big plays by himself and Leinart never made any crazy super human plays, just used the assets around him very well (which he did). But thats where people stop. Young had to make super human freaky plays because he didn't have the ability of a Leinart to make the sound, not super human freaky, typical football play. Leinart is a pocket passer and would pick defenses apart using the weapons he had in his outstanding skill position players. Young would scramble around and make all sorts of jaw dropping plays because he simply did not have the polished ability that other QBs have at being a pocket passer. Yes Young was PHENOMENAL at what he did, but it was partly out of neccesity for what he lacked. Everyone plays to their strengths which is why Leinart stayed in the pocket and Young scrambled all day. They were both great college QBs in my mind in their last season.
