Jamal Boykin from Duke (bball) Transferring

Postby DiamondM » Fri Dec 08, 2006 11:46 am

Sophmore from Duke, Jamal Boykin, who has been sitting out so far this year with mono, has asked for a release from Duke and intends to transfer. Since he left campus earlier this fall to recover from mono after limited play in the first three games, I'm not sure what his eligibility situation would be. Yeah, he was a little used bench guy as a freshman, but one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?

Methinks credit hours tranferring and academics would not be a problem.

EDITED TO REFLECT THAT HE DID PLAY SOME LIMITED TIME IN THE FIRST THREE GAMES OF THE SEASON. SORRY FOR THE MISTAKE, I THOUGHT HE'D NOT PLAYED AT ALL.

I'm on the super-secret Duke basketball mafia email list and will see if I can find out.

Umm think again about credit hours, we had a QB from Northwestern look at transferring to SMU and decided to stay because he would lose something like half his hours. This was Northwestern not Sligo State Teachers Junior College.

Since it is only hot of the presses that he's asked for (received?????) his release, he shouldn't have actually been talking to anyone yet. I ran into Malcom Farmer and Coach Doherty at the ground breaking today and told them about this in case they didn't know (they didn't seem to yet). Coach asked how tall he is, and when I told him, he took out some little slips of paper, shuffled through them, and said he would get on it.

In case they didn't know?
Hard to believe Coach Doherty and his staff aren't on PF.com all day, every day.

"in case they didn't know" as in, "in case they hadn't heard it through other media outlets or recruiting circles before I let them know"

Well, if you must get details.... He seemed to have 4 or 5 index card sized slips of paper with red borders, with names and other info written on them. It seemed to me to some kind of "system" where he keeps names, stats, and contact info -- just a guess, but this wasn't like me trying to rumage through my purse to find an old receipt to write on.

Also, since Coach knows who I am and knows I already have season tickets, I don't think it was about putting on a show to feign interest in order to sell me something.

But, whatever. My point was just to say, maybe Coach will put some feelers out for a guy who was the California Player of the Year a couple years ago -- it would be a legitimate Div. I transfer and quite a coup. Dave O'Brien and Majerus seemed to think Boykin would be looking to stay on the west coast (yesterday during Duke v. George Mason), but Dallas is a heck of a lot closer to home than North Carolina.
