SMU Recruits' Chance to Be SUPERSTAR

Postby Stallion » Sat Dec 09, 2006 12:28 pm

Desoto behind SMU recruit Terrance Wilkerson will be the high school Game of the Week at 3:00 on Ch. 21. Lots and lots of Division 1A prospects in this one. Pay attention to DeSoto's Cyrus Gray who should be one of the Top Seniors of the Class of 2008. At least 15 players on both teams have already received a Division 1A offer.

Cedar Hill blew DeSoto away something like 42-14-I checked out with 4 minutes left. Wilkerson actually sprained his ankle in the first quarter and hobbled badly with each step the rest of the Day. Actually made two big plays in the passing game but other than that DeSoto seemed to throw screens the rest of the Day. Probably put up pretty good accuracy numbers but other than those two plays he was ineffective in the passing game. Now I could be wrong because Wilkerson was hobbling but I seriously doubt he has the arm strength or accuracy and his delivery is too slow to play Division 1A QB-I'm reasonably sure he's going to end up at a different position in college. He also lined up at Flanker much of the Day as they use their RB in a Darren McFadden type of formation. You couldn't tell a thing about his speed or elusiveness because of his injury. Cedar Hill had as many great athletes as just about any team that has played Texas 5A Football.

Wilkerson is a very good athlete with great quickness and acceleration, and he changes direction very quickly, and uses an array of subtle dips and fakes to make tacklers miss. His top-end speed might not be world-class, but he's more than enough - most reports I've gotten have him running in the high 4.4s and low 4.5s. I agree that he likely will end up at another position, although I've been told he's headed to SMU because he has been given a chance at quarterback, and his mechanics are pretty good, although he doesn't have huge arm strength. His athletic ability allows him to make plays, but I agree with the recruiting analysts who think his future is brightest at slot WR or CB, and definitely on special teams. Wilkerson is a little like James Mapps. He won't blow up a stopwatch with a 4.3 in the 40, but he that ability to make people miss when he seems completely cornered, and when he gets a gap, he his acceleration allows him to hit his top speed in just a couple of steps. Classic "athlete" recruit.

I tuned with about 3 minutes to go......The announcers said "Wilkerson was going to SMU and would probably be a WR which would be a good thing because now that SMU has found a great QB in Justin Willis, the two could have a great connnection there" - or something like that.....

He was hobbling even worse in the last minute of the game.....
