I jumped on the Aledo bandwagon "so to speak" and drove to Waco to watch the Bearcats play Copperas Cove.

The Cove QB Robert Griffin (6-4, 190) is a junior and a wonderful talent. Mobile. Decent arm. Heady and calm under pressure. He needs to refine his mechancis and get a little more zip on his out routs.

But folks, this kid is terrific. He has such long strides that he appears to be moving slower than he really is. Don't know a 40 time, but he's got something. He is a player that makes you go hmmmmm.

Cove's passing game was pretty simple -- outs, WR screens, etc. But the coachable things could lend themselves to the development of quite a talent.

I'm sure the BCS schools will come after him something fierce during the May evaluation period. It is my hope that we engage the 300-mile recruiting radius theory and go look at him.

Hey Big10 - I hear Copperas Cove also has a handful of really talented seniors this year: a tall, fast WR, a couple of big OLs .... know anything about them? Can they play, or do they just look the part? Are they committed anywhere? (What are their names?)

The tight end, Logan Brock, is committed to UTEP and their WR, Rashad Hawk, is committed to Tech, and a safety, Mario Goins, recently committed to Arizona. Overall, a very salty team in a talented region. Central Texas always produces tough, tested kids with speed and attitude.

They may have a defensive tackle that can play at the I-AA level, but Griffin, just a junior, will be a nice recruit for someone next year. He is much more of a thrower at this juncture, but I watched Chase Daniel as a junior and he, too, was a thrower that got better with good coaching. Whether the Cove staff can develop a legitimate QB will be worth watching. The TE Brock's younger brother, Tanner, is a stud sophomore LB that will be a nice recruit in two years.
