Two recruits committed this week: DeKalb tailback Terrance Ganaway and Mesquite Poteet athlete Taylor Dupree (6-1, 199), who is being recruited as a linebacker. Ganaway verbally committed to SMU back in late May, but switched to the Owls after visiting Rice last weekend.


"I'm trying to play next year," Ganaway said, referring to the gridlock in the SMU backfield, which facilitated his change of heart. "I just want a shot, a chance.

"I don't know if this is my final decision. I'm just going to pray about it."

I don't know if this is my final decision? Then why in the world did he switch to Rice if he doesn't know. This kid would appear to have no idea what he wants.

I have little time for an athlete who jumps around from commitment to commitment. On the surface, this is a kid you don't know if he will jump into the fox hole with you.

And don't give me this "he's confused" business. Everything I have read from the other thread is suggests that he has not been as proactive about finding out these schools and what fits him.

Recruiting is a two-way street. You're recruiting them as much as they are recruiting you, and if you don't do your homework, you're going to wind up making a poor decision.

Would I love to have him here? Sure. Will he work to become better? Who knows.

Anyone remember when Jack Brewer committed to Tech, switched to TCU, then came to SMU before transferring to Minnesota?

IOState is making a major push on him and that is the reason he is wavering again. They are going at him hard.

He's playing CYA. He's going to get a ride somewhere, but wants to make sure he's got one locked up. Not the dumbest thing a kid can do.

That is not what is going on, I assure you. Terrance's mind is not made up as far as to where he is going to sign. He is a very excited young man is is understandably overwhelmed by all of the attention. Switching verbal commitments has probably hurt his credibility just a bit, and he is aware of that. Rice coaches hit him [deleted] his visit and in the excitement of all of that, came a switch of verbal commitment. I am not going to say he regrets committing to Rice, but we have all read what he said about not being sure if this was his final decision. He hasn't even visited Iowa State yet. I really hate it that some folks will judge him on decisions he makes about HIS future at 18 years old. He is sorting thru things the best he can.

Hey, look at what SMU has to offer. A great freshman QB, a sweet set of WRs and a tight end who can beat some @ss. This offense could be phenomenal in a year or two. I go a little overboard on my criticism of 18-year-old kids who make decision like this, but i don't really see why he would de-commit from us.

We are not judging him. We are lamenting that we look like a fallback at best.

and some of you think I take this too seriously. Getting angry at an 18 year old kid decommitting to go play at one of the greatest universities in the Country. Its the kid's decision. He sounds like nothing but a great kid-why don't you just let him make the decision about the direction of his future.

Who's angry? That's what the emoticon is for. If I was angry, I'd be dishing out my "Hey Number 1" emoticon (i.e. the smiley face w/ middle finger) to an 18 year kid I don't know. I'm just pointing out that I can't see where SMU should be saddled with having slighted the kid when he is indeed doing his best to make sure his future is best taken care of. I don't blame the kid for looking around, and frankly, if I were him, I'd look at Rice too...and Iowa State (brrr). And I know that is it not prudent to say out loud that SMU is his fallback. I just think by his actions, not what he says, that SMU is indeed the fallback. That's okay too, but let's all be intellectually honest about it.
