DMN SportsDay article on this kid who is 6-1 and averages 24.3 points for 5A Hurst L.D. Bell. He also averages 7.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Against FW Dunbar, he scored a career-high 44 points and 17 rebounds in a 88-84 loss. He averaged 22 points last season and was the first freshman to be named all-area MVP by the Wichita Falls Times Record News. He shoots 100 free throws after each practice. His dad is the team's coach and says that UT-Arlington, TCU, Texas A$M, Mississippi, and Stanford have shown interest. I'm tired of just seeing athletes who can't put the ball in the hoop recruited. Seems like we should be on that list ESPECIALLY after the lousy shooting exhibited at last night's game :!:

If this was about football, I would have more empathy for you. Certainly this was a miserable performance. But, Doh is currently playing the hand he was dealt. He knows more about evaluating talent than any five people on this board--and when to begin making a push for a kid.

Think of it this way, who is more attractive to a 15 year old? The girls that have been around since grade school, or the new girl just transferring into school? The attention received his freshman year or the attention he starts receiving his junior year.

The kids only a year and half out of the eighth grade. He may become the hottest commodity in Texas or his may have reached his potential but I wouldn't give a 15 year old with 2 1/2 high school seasons left, the son of a high school coach a stong indication of a future offer only to have to recind it later or live with a bad decision. If he is that good, he is already on our mailing list and soon will receive personal attention from our people, if hasn't already.

In addition, an offer from SMU based upon this year, isn't something to brag about. After Doh gets some additonal recruits and current players for another year, it may have considerably more impact.

Again, last night was just another of a seemly endless list of SMU athletic disappointments. But, unlike football, I not only see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I think I see the grass, the trees, the birds,....

Don't forget, he has forgotten more about basketball than any five of us collectively will ever know.
