New CommitWR Bradley Hanes 5.3 Rating commited to us today. Chose us over Indiana.
A trip out of the state actually helped make Mansfield (Texas) Summit wide receiver Bradley Haynes decision easier for a local school.
Bradley Haynes made a commitment to SMU on Monday. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder had it down to two schools as of last week. After visiting SMU two weeks ago, he and his family went up to check out Indiana this past weekend. On the way home, Haynes had his decision made and called up the coaches of the school closest to home. "My family and I decided that SMU was the best place for me, so I committed there today," Haynes said. "It hit me on the ride home. Indiana was a great school with a nice campus, but I felt like in my heart SMU was the place for me to go. "I really enjoyed being around the players and they seemed like they had their head on straight. They know why they came to SMU too – they want to win." Haynes says that it wasn't just athletics that led him to the Mustangs. "It's a good academic school and the coaches are great," Haynes said. "I also think I'll get the chance to play early there." This will be the final choice for Haynes. He has no plans of looking around. "I've enjoyed the recruiting process, even though it was hectic at times," Haynes said. "But, this is pretty much it for me. I don't think I'm going to look anywhere else." Haynes was recruited by coach Jim Gush.
Ok that's three off my list plus Youri Yenga would have been if he had not committed before. So that's 4 pretty good CUSA recruits in about a week. This is the undoubtedly the best finishing drives for Bennett in the last 4 years. In recent years we've really come up with unknowns for the last 5 or 6 commitments. I'll bump some previous posts I did on Haynes.
again this kid should be a big weapon on fades in the endzone as he is one of the best leapers in Texas. 8th best vertical leaps of all athletes tested by Rivals at their College Station Nike camp. Not a blazer but with his height and leaping ability he could be a weapon.
BTW the 3 remaining players on my Most wanted List are WR De'Von Bailey, Athlete Justin Johnson and WR Joseph Florence. Florence is kinda of a mystery right now. I believe SMU was high on his list in December along with Kansas St(which already has a big class) and Kansas and UH.
Well after the last two weeks, I'm feeling a whole lot better about this class. Some very nice pick-ups! Welcome to the Hilltop Bradley!
he's right though, and thats what I said in another thread yesterday I believe...I know rivals isnt the be all know all, but it's a lot better to finish up with 5.2 and 5.3 rated players than consistant 4.9s Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
I'm more excited with the offers of the kids we have gotten in the last week or so than a 5.2 or 5.3 rating. I place more emphasis on offers. Its still not an outstanding class and I can't even really call it a very good class-but its heading in the right direction.
My posts are a reflection of SMU's actual success in recruiting. Always have been. I've been optomistic about Doherty. I knew as soon as Ron Meyer signed-eer bought his first class that SMU was going to kick some [deleted] under Meyer. I still would find it difficult to rate this class in the upper half of CUSA classes though especially when you start factoring in the Nation's No. 1 QB who might transfer to Tulsa, the Nations No. 1 WR Fred Rouse from a few years back who is transferring to UTEP, the 9-10 outstanding Division 1A transfers to UH who will be eligible at UH next year et al. We are still getting beat pretty bad on the margins by the differences in admission standards that apparently still exist.
