New Commitment from Out of the BlueFound this while surfing in the Internet:
Robinson changes mind, picks SMU instead of IU January 27th, 2007 at 12:09am Doug This is one of those crazy recruiting stories I’ll always remember. I talked with Texas LB/DE Josh Robinson late this afternoon and he told me about why he had chosen to play football at Indiana this fall. That story was slated to run in tomorrow morning’s H-T. But by the time I came home from having dinner tonight at Macri’s Deli in Bloomington, Robinson had already announced that he’s changed his mind. “I just de-committed to Indiana and I’m committing to SMU now,†Robinson told Andy Romey of Inside Indiana tonight, saying he decided it’s too far from Bloomington to Dallas and that his choice of SMU is “firm.†Robinson told Romey he called Indiana coach Terry Hoeppner to tell him he was de-committing and Hoeppner “didn’t like that.†I remember Hoeppner explaining last year that he doesn’t believe there’s even such a word as “de-commit.†He said a commitment is a commitment and you can’t invent a word to undo that. So I believe that wasn’t a pleasant call tonight for young Mr. Robinson. I tried calling Robinson on his cell phone to find out what had happened in the few hours since I’d last talked with him, but got his voice mail. As I get any further information about what happened in this situation, I’ll let you know.
Now confirmed by an Indiana Rivals report. Might be a DE at SMU. 6-3, 235 from South Garland High School. (Rivals had him at about 210 this summer and other sources had him at 180 so I wouldn't bet on that weight this story had). Offered by Indiana of course, UNLV(I found a confired visit to UNLV from a local paper) and Wyoming also involved. Earlier this summer in July he had reported offers from UTEP, Utah St., Louisiana Tech and Northwetern St. (Louisiana). A lot of big schools through the Big 12 North especially seemed to show interest early too. For example he was quoted earlier this summer as thinking that Missouri and Iowa St. were about to offer-so they must have shown genuine interest. At Rivals camp he had some difficult to reconcile times 11th out of 55 recruits in Shuttle while testing with DBs(pretty good for a big guy) but 42 out of 45 recruits in the 40 with a time of 4.98 also tested against DBs. Probably should throw out the 40 time because of the discrepacy. He was verified at 6-3, 210 by Rivals over the summer.
This is a good thing, right? He sounds like a pretty good player. Is there a thread about him? (bump it
![]() Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
Rivals has him at 4.98 in the 40. I've seen everything from that down to 4.7, so who knows, maybe it's somewhere in between. Got to think, though, that with this guy's size and speed, he's got to be viewed as a DE, not OLB, right?
There was another story a week ago about this guy, with several other schools involved (I think including a couple more offers), but now that this new story is up, I can't find it. I'll keep looking.
The Indiana report does say that he was up to 235 on his recent trip but seriously the internet is all over the board with this guy. I mean he tested with the DBs this summer. He split time at several positions but finished the season a DE for South Garland where he made 1st Team All-District 10-5A. He had 60 Tackles, 25 Tackles for Loss 8 sacks and 2 Forced Fumbles as a Senior. Scout as well had him with a slow 40 time at 4.97 and with a tall but skinnier frame at 6-3, 212 (verified) this summer.
Reading the story... IU gave the kid his first steak??? I'm guessing he could put on some weight pretty quickly with some red meat
I think the word is "prospect" I'm not crazy about the speed
....................It is always good to take recruits away from any BCS school but I agree that he would be alittle slow at 4.9 for an outside linebacker in the defense we played last year. Hopefully the 4.7 will be verified. The guy is apparently strong and athletic.
It's got to be verified. South Garland is a pretty big-time program, right? They have some real athletes who come out of that place, and no matter how big and strong this guy is or how well he catches, there's no way a team like South Garland has a kid who barely cracks 5 seconds in the 40 playing receiver or defensive back .... ever.
well it is verified by Scout at 4.97 and Rivals at 4.98. However, it does seem strange that was playing WR and DB earlier in the season at that speed. It might be he really didn't take those combines seriously in the middle of the summer and was not training.
This is from Texas Football before Robinson switched to SMU.
Also, Indiana made its first trek into Texas with a commitment from South Garland DL/LB Josh Robinson. The 6-3, 235-pound prospect had interest from Iowa State, UNLV, La-Monroe, Wyoming, and Washington State.
