Two SMU women basketball recruits top area defensive playersThe DMNs high school women's basketball writer believes the area's best all around defensive player is SMU commit Alicia Mitcham of West Mesquite. He also believe the top defensvie guard is Rockwall's Haley Day, a fall signee who averages 20 + points. Looks like Rhonda has her team on the right track for the future.
Coach Rompola and her staff are assembling a team that has a chance to be absolutely studly next year. The three veteran leaders - Janielle Dodds, Katy Cobb and Sharee Shepherd - are back next year. Katie Gross, I assume, will be back next year after a medical redshirt. The talented freshmen - Severin, Wills, Gilliam and Samuels - will have a much better idea what it takes to play at this level, and maybe more importantly, they'll have an idea about the rigors of a season and what kind of offseason preparation needs to be put in to get ready for it.
SMU is going to be one of the conference's top teams - maybe THE top team - next year. GO MUSTANGS!
