True or False?SMU about to sign more Dallas area talent than UT. True - And that's the way it should be. F the longhorns.
Pony P-1
More players from the dallas area? Absolutely. More talent? No, unless Phil Bennett is your source. I think UT had half of the DMN area top 10 players. Our best player is ranked around 40ish. Of course we are dominating them in the 40 and beyond range.
UT got their list out and got about 22 commitments out of the first 24 players offered in about 2-3 months- literrally. They almost had a 100% offer acceptance ratio until Bradley Stephens(A&M) and Lennon Creer(Tennessee) decided to look elsewhere. No they didn't have interest in Lerebeus who is smaller and slower than what they what they got.
Yes, your point is clear -- SMU and UT don't always recruit the same athletes, for a number of reasons. Thanks for the breaking news. However, I can also tell you after having talked to our entire class except one (you know who you are .... call me!), there are several who have received calls from UT. So to say they had NO interest in our commitments is just inaccurate, but it's a more dramatic statement, so go ahead and say it however you like. As for their recruits all being bigger than our man LeRibeus, he stands 6-foot-4 and at one point, I heard, got up to 348. So they have Tray Allen at a half an inch taller (6-4.5) but a scrawny 295 pounds. Michael Huey is listed at 6-5, 290. Aundre McGaskey is listed at 6-4, 290. OT Kyle Hix stands 6-7 but weighs in at 305, according to one list I've seen. Yes, they have some big boys, and their boys have considerable talent, or UT wouldn't have recruited them. But LeRibeus is a huge young man (I've met him in person -- have you?), and on the film I've seen, he looks very quick for a big guy. J.T. Brooks is also a real hoss, as is Bryce Tennison. Derek Lilly and Kelvin Beachum and Kelly Turner might be an inch or two shorter, or a few pounds lighter, but these guys are coming in with big frames, good pedigrees and a ton of strength. We are well past the stage of recruiting little guys and "hoping they add 40 pounds." Yes, UT picks from some top-caliber players -- we all know that. But the notion that we're getting only after-thoughts in the recruiting game is just inane and serves no purpose other than to back up the "sky is falling" rant.
No really you are wrong. UT was not seriously interested in a single player SMU committed. I wasn't the one who started the thread-just setting the record straight. I'm sure some of our recruits got candy, baloons, pom-poms, pennants and T-shirts from UT on unofficial visits or on a Junior Day but there is not a single player they seriously considered. You are not being intellectually honest in denying that claim-otherwise let's see the evidence. What's more I bet the first SMU recruit is might not be in the Top 50 on the UT waiting list. Guess I shouldn't bring up the point that Texas A&M and Texas Tech didn't seriously recruit an SMU commitment either. Nor should I mention SMU only bothered to offer .02% of the Texas Top 100-hey Phil can tell everybody that SMU only bothered to offer one player that UT wanted.
You have NO idea what you are talking about other than what you read on Rivals. Just admit it. As always, you are saying our coaches, our recruits and some of the people on here that know what they are talking about are just fabricating the stories to make the class sound better.
There is one of me and several thousands of other people that post on this board. Its an open forum. I am realistically representing the facts-and if I weren't people could cite facts showing I am wrong. The only comments on this board that will claim I haven't realistically represented the facts will come from Phil bestest buddies. Why don't you start-what facts have I materially misrepresented.
Believe whatever you want, or whatever rivals tells you to believe, if it helps you sleep at night. One of our recruits sat in Mack Brown's office and was asked if he wanted to be a part of "the Longhorn family." We had another getting calls from UT coaches in the spring who said "sorry, Coach, I grew up rooting against the Longhorns," at which point the coach said (basically) "OK, good luck, you're a good player but we've got a long list of other good players who want to play here, so no hard feelings," or something along those lines. We had another who was told by UT "we really like you, but we've got offers out to X other players at your position -- if they say no, you're getting one, if they say yes, you're not." Those other players said yes, but this guy definitely was on their radar.
Yes, it's widely recognized that Texas pulls in one of the top recruiting classes in the country every year, and that every February, Mack Brown walks on water, and that a bunch of those guys in Austin will be pulling NFL checks one day -- couldn't care less. I do know that if you're going to use UT interest as the benchmark for what makes a player worth rooting for, then SMU has some coming in this year, and I'm excited to see them play for the Ponies.
And also about the numerous players that stallion's favorite team, tcu, has offered and tried for months to get in on, and were told, no thanks. stallion cannot admit that maybe somebody else knows more than rivals does. Pony Pride, we all look forward to your report after signing date to get the truth as told to you by our recruits and their coaches. Nobody has said that we are recruiting against UT but quite frankly, not many schools can beat UT on anybody.
You might also note that Rivals is run by a UT-ex, which may have an affect on the ratings applied to some of the players. Again not to say that UT doesn't get the top recruits, but the criteria used to apply ratings to players appears to include just a little bit of subjectivity from time to time.
How do you only offer one fiftieth of a player? We only want you here every satrurday of the year that would be 1/52 thats pretty close .02% of 100 Players
