Lots of competition

Rivals says we've offered Denton (Ryan) DE Josh Williams (6-4, 210, 4.

. That's not breaking news, I realize - I think the offer was extended weeks ago, maybe months ago. But now he's listing Nebraska and Arkansas as his favorites ("high interest") with SMU, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Baylor also on his list (all "medium interest") and claims to have medium interest in each. If Coach Roark, who's listed as our coach recruiting him, can pull this off, it sounds like that would be a real coup.

He just might sign with you. Then he could join your spare QB in getting beat by his hometown team.

Trying to get your game face on before you go out and protect the city from criminals?

Be careful out there, Barney.

Josh Williams is a very interesting prospect. For what it's worth, I was told by a pretty reliable source that he is a little heavier now, pushing 220. Pretty normal for a guy his age. I also have him timed at 4.7.
The guy who keeps coming to mind when I watch film of Williams is Justin Rogers. Rogers also was a skinny DE in high school, but had a similar build - tall, long arms - and absolutely relentless. Never quits on a play. Not a pure sprinter, but quick enough in his acceleration and change of direction to make a lot of plays in the backfield, sometimes on RBs who have considerably more pure speed. No reason to assume he'll bulk up as much as Rogers did (but then nobody I know predicted Rogers would add 60 pounds, either). If he's one of those guys whose body doesn't allow him to add considerable bulk, he very easily could make the transition back to a pass-rushing OLB. He is Ryan's best pass rusher, by far, and has the instincts and mobility to drop into coverage, if needed. My guess, however, is that he will add 20-30 pounds and remain a very impressive DE.
