Russell Wants to Improve Recruiting Chances

Midlothian (Texas) tight end Caleb Russell (6-3, 245, 4.7) is doing everything he can to improve his stock this summer and if everything goes according to plan he will pick up a few more offers before the start of his senior year.
“I’ve already been to Rice and Baylor camps, and I’m going to A&M, TCU, SMU and New Mexico before the end of summer,†said Russell, who caught 18 passes for 188 yards and one score as a junior.
Russell has landed a couple of offers from Division-I schools but he and his parents do not want to release that information just yet. He did, however, tell Scout.com which schools are recruiting him the hardest and that seem to have the most interest in him.
“Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas, Rice, TCU, New Mexico, University of Louisiana at Lafayette and SMU are the ones that I feel comfortable saying are recruiting me right now,†he said.
Last season, Russell showed that he was a solid run blocker but this year he hopes that he will be able to show college coaches that he can do more than just block.
“They love my blocking and the power and strength that I have,†he said. “They want to see me catch the ball more and turn up field and run. I didn’t get many passes thrown to me because we had a brand new staff and a brand new quarterback so they want to see me more in the passing game.â€
The tight end is not used nearly as much as it was in the past but one thing that will play a big factor in Russell’s decision is just how much a school implements his position.
“I want to bond with the coaching staff and players really well and have a family oriented group,†he said. “I want to play and just go the right school in general that uses the tight end a lot.â€
