From DMN:
"Rockwall quarterback Braden Smith said he has orally committed to SMU. Smith (6-1, 190) completed 67.3 percent of his passes as a junior last season and threw for 1,827 yards and 18 touchdowns for District 10-5A champion Rockwall. He also ran for 10 touchdowns."
They forgot one very big stat.. He had only 2 picks last year.. Makes very smart decisions.. Coaches son also.
Braden's father is Scott Smith, a HP alum and Baylor Alum. Played qb at HP and Baylor. Has been a head coach at several schools: Garland, Duncanville, HP, Odessa Permian and now Rockwall.. He also coached for several SWC conf schools including SMU after the death penalty.
I am a coach at Rockwall and so I will get to see plenty of Braden this fall. He will be just like Justin Willis, smaller qb, great athlete, but a great decision maker. One more thing, he is two year captain.
Should the stangs not be as successful as we would all like them to be this year, I would not be surprised if Braden sticks w/ his committment.

Just curious. Do you ever read the other posts?

no...I don't like to scroll through the pages so I made it easier and put his name on the main page.. just like the other 6 committs that we have.

He might learn something if he read more than just what he had to say.

I was referring to it being fair for Braden to have a thread with his name on it like the other recruits.

I like the fact that with all those completions 67%+ percentage, Braden only had two picks last year and 18 passing/ 10 rushing TD's as a Junior. DMN says accurate strong arm, two year captain, and a winner QB.... sounds pretty good to me.

He's a no star right now. He hasn't been ranked by Rivals and isn't even in the Scout database.

considering his performanes at the 7 on 7 Tournaments I'm surprised he wasn't in their database-they do have positive reports on him from those tournaments.

Does that mean if he gets upgraded, it'll be to a 1 star?
I know, I just couldn't resist. Hopefully he'll pan out for us.
considering his performanes at the 7 on 7 Tournaments I'm surprised he wasn't in their database-they do have positive reports on him from those tournaments.
...............If he has another similiar year, I would think he should be a 3 star. Like another article said at the " other " fan web site, "he has apparently flown under the recruiting radar".

why? 3 stars are for highly recruited players. What is it with some of guys that can't figure this out. Just be contented with the thought that he was a Phil Bennett 3 star and hope he was right. No hope he's right about more than half of this recruiting class so far because Phil is recruiting "off the board" in August already. Looks like Phil's rounding up a heck of a high school All-District team with the assistance of tmustangp's advice rather than a Division 1A recruiting class.

I am really frustrated with all this critcism! We recruit to our competition. When it was the SWC, the SWC, the former WAC, the WAC, CUSA, CUSA. Now that we play two Sunbelt teams every year...well, you get the drift, we recruit down to our level of competition and no more.

That's because the keeper of the star already knows all the answers about recruiting and since he has seen every player in action --

-- he knows if they are going to be good fit. Or in this case, he already knows they won't be a fit.
We are in a recruiting world between the haves and the have nots. We will win our share against the BCS but not against most. TCU does well in that regard -- at a better rate than us, no question -- but they and Boise and maybe one or two more are the exceptions. And even then, they won't win a ton of head to heads.
Until the BCS system changes where every program has a legitimate shot to compete, it will stay this way.
