Here is a proactive coach. Two of Spurrier's recruits after signing and being eligible under NCAA guidelines, have been disallowed entry under University of SC admissions. Spurrier told them if they continue not to allow his recruits to enter based on NCAA eligiblity, he will quit.
One recruit has now gone to ECU and the other is still shopping.
(Wish I could link but these computer thingys are just too much for me to understand.)

damn. Can you imagine how many coaches SMU would've gone through in the last 20 years if they applied and followed the same ultimatum?

Unfortunately, our administration would probably say, "Don't let the door hit you on the way out!" If Forrest Gregg was made to live under those rules, and he is an alum, a Hall of Famer and a great coach, and Lamar Hunt, a donor, Hall of Famer and an alum couldn't stop these rules from being enacted, what chance to the Rossley's, Cavan's and Bennett's of the world have? The only thing was the Bennett as part of his deal got the rules relaxed some BEFORE he signed on. But one thing is for sure, Spurrier would never come here.

I agree but unless I missed it in the article, I do not yet know what SCs response is. The kids are not going to SC so it may be that the University is taking a stand. Somehow, however, I do not believe it will come to that.

What's her 40? Shuttle? Ht, Wt? Is she willing to sit out if she transfers. Walk on at SMU maybe for a year? Come on, we want answers.

SC is following rival Clemson's lead here. Clemson coach Tommy Bowden complained that 2 prized recruits were denied scholarship offers because they didn't meet Clemson's new academic standards. Major uproar over here because these schools actually talk about competing for ACC/SEC and National Championships. TCU's former AD is now Spurrier's boss. I've been out of town and haven't seen all the new but will undoubtedly catch up in the next couple of days.
