(Update for Possible Commit)Reports of Possible SMU TransferI hestitate to post this because it is premature and not set in stone until a player actually signs with a school. But for what is worth this is a report on RaiderPower. Odiari was very highly recruited out of high school and was a 3 Star(5.5). He was 6-0, 225 olb from Lewisville Hebron. Offers from OSU, Tech, Wisconsin, TCU and Arkansas. SMU at least recruited him as I remember but dropped out of contention when the bigger schools came in late. Here is the report from a fan on RaiderPower:
I have a 100% lockdown source that has informed me that Odiari has enrolled at Collin County Community College and will finish his associates degree next spring. After that he will enroll at SMU. Arkansas came after him hard and heavy but his parents insisted he go to JUCO to get his head on straight. His parents are both very concerned and very involved in all of this. Seems like a good kid that made some terrible decisions. Look forward to competing against him next year.
FULL DISCLOSURE:
Gundy dismisses Odiari from OSU football teamRelated Information Staff Writer STILLWATER  Oklahoma State linebacker Alex Odiari was dismissed from the football team on Monday for breaking team rules, Cowboys coach Mike Gundy confirmed. Gundy said Odiari, a backup who was not on the two-deep depth chart released last week, was not dismissed because of his arrest over the summer. Odiari was arrested in a Stillwater bar in July for fake ID, being underage in a bar and an alleged violation of a protective order from a former girlfriend. The charges related to the protective order were dropped. "It's an unfortunate situation that he broke our team rules,â€
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/FAIRNESS DOCTRINE ADDITION:
This is Odiari's OSU player page-NOTE he made First Team Academic All-Big 12 so he must be a stinkin' genuis. Plus he apparently is a Sociology Major-I would think more of those credits will transfer as opposed to Kinesiology, Farm & Ranch, PE or Rocks For Jocks Part of a young group of linebackers at O-State who figure to improve with experience ... A first-team academic all-Big 12 selection. 2006: Got the start in four games and played in 11 ... Ended the season with 14 tackles ... Had three tackles in consecutive games against Florida Atlantic and Houston ... Had two tackles for six yards in losses against FAU, including a sack, and was credited with a half-sack at Kansas State. 2005: Played in four games as a true freshman and made three tackles ... Had two tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage, against Texas A&M. High School: One of the better linebacker prospects in Texas, Odiari came to Oklahoma State after an impressive high school career ... Senior season numbers featured 108 total tackles, 18 tackles for losses, eight quarterback sacks and one fumble return for a touchdown ... A prep All-American according to Max Emfinger and was also first-team all-metro, first-team all-district and district defensive MVP, according to the Dallas Morning News ... Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU and Arkansas were involved in the recruiting battle. Personal: Born June 11, 1987, in Enugu, Nigeria ... Guardians are Johnny and Dorothy Foster ... Majoring in sociology at Oklahoma State.
He actually played mostly on the defensive line  as a very undersized nose tackle  at Hebron. He was without question the quickest, most explosive defensive lineman (end or tackle) I have ever seen, and one of the strongest, too. He absolutely destroyed people.
Hope this is true. He's an unbelievable player. I really shouldn't drink and type.
He was No. 84 on the 2005 Rivals Post Season Texas Top 100. I think he was unranked for most of the recruiting season but there was heavy interest after his senior year. BTW I confirmed SMU did offer in 2005. You might remember this was the kid who announced he would go to whichever team won the TCU/Tech game but then went to OSU instead. Played at Lewisville Hebron with Rynn Leonard-and I believe they won a 5A Championship that year.
I had lunch with someone today who knew Odiari in high school. He said the kid "has a heart of gold" although my friend was surprised that Odiari was able to earn Academic All-Big 12 honors. Odiari's family immigrated to the US from Nigeria and there were some issues that eventually landed him with a foster family in high school (if I recall correctly). My friend speculated that the incident regarding the restraining order was nothing more than a lovesick kid not knowing how to properly deal with the situation -- perhaps sort of a culture clash. If all the people who had fake IDs when they were in college were locked up, there'd be nobody to post here on PonyFans.
Anyway, supposedly he's a really nice kid. I remember when Joe Sawyer was recruiting him. He was certain that even though many of the bigger schools were after him, Odiari was going to shock everyone by signing with SMU. Well, all I got to say to that its better late than never for Alex and SMU. And our girls will make any young man forget about the nags they may have left behind in Oklahoma. I'd like to see the Ponies with a big run-stuffing MLB like this kid could turn into.
I hear he's well over 225 pounds now. More like somewhere in the 250 range, and completely ripped, from what I understand.
