After much anxious waiting, the DFW Area 100 is online.

SMU has drawn interest from:

#6 Cyrus Gray (RB, 6'0", 180 lb, Desoto)
#27 Greg Brown (DB, 5'11", 164 lb, Cedar Hill)
#31 Kenji Jackson (DB, 5'10", 169 lb, Mansfield)
#64 Jordan Gush (WR, 6'0", 161 lb, Richardson Pearce)
#67 Sam Schwartzstein (OL, 6'3", 257 lb, Southlake Carroll)
#70 Jarrett Ben (DB, 5'10", 156 lb, Garland)
#73 Riko Smalls (QB, 6'0", 183 lb, Plano East)
#85 John Shorter (DB, 5'11", 177 lb, Lake Highlands)
#92 Osaze Idumwonyi (OL, 6'1", 261 lb, Cedar Hill)
#93 Jeremi Mathis (RB, 6'1", 205 lb, Arlington Martin)
#96 Braden Smith (QB, 6'0", 190 lb, Rockwall) [already committed]

Any thoughts? Opinions?

You can't have your cake and eat it too. Don't expect commitments with all this talk about firing the coach. Who wants to commit to a team if they don't know which coach they'll be playing for?

Or maybe they just don't want to commit to a bad team right off the bat and would rather leave their options open for now

Not a big fan of the DFW Top 100 because it rewards recruiting mediocrity but for those that are NTSU has already got 5 commitments.

So you're saying Saint Dodge is a mediocre recruiter?

Whew! I thought you believed he was going to pull talent (aside from his own son) to Southlake Carroll North.

Probably so with what he has to work with there. The problem is, if Dodge is mediocre, then what sort of awful word will we have to come up with to describe Bennett as a recruiter?

Dodge is to mediocre recruiting as Bennett is to terrible recruiting. I think that works out just about right.

So that [already committed] note after Braden Smith is a typo? DMN needs new copy editors.

the reason the DFW Top 100 list is so silly is that here you are bragging about a Top 100 QB SMU has committed when in fact off the Top of my head I'm pretty sure every school in Texas and CUSA in this area has a commitment from a higher rated QB. Top 96 is below average ie mediocre Division 1A prospect. Braden Smith a mediocre ho-hum Division 1A prospect as a QB.

This should graphically display the point:

1. A&M Tommy Dorman 5.7
2. Tech Seth Doege 5.7
3. NTSU Riley Dodge 5.7
4. UH Robert Griffen 5.7
5. Tulsa Tyler Wilson 5.6
6. UTEP Tim Curry 5.5
7. Baylor Nick Florence 5.4
8. TCU Yogi Gallegos 5.4
9. Rice Ryan Lewis 5.1
10. SMU Braden Smith 5.0

UT doesn't have a QB commit but is a finalist for the Top rated QB in the country and of course all their QBs are highly rated. So excuse me while I don't all too excited about the No. 96 rated player in DFW. Once again Smith is a sleeper as a Division 1A prospect who was passed over by all of these schools. He's a left over-SMU got because they failed to get the QBs that were highly sought. Doesn't mean he can't develop into a player but for the 20th year its unlikely that SMU can become a quality program by taking 25 sleepers every year.

I wouldn't get too excited though-a lot of the top kids listed as having interest in SMU really are looking elsewhere-in particular Brown, Jackson, Schwartzstein and Ben are locked into a lot of other schools and it don't appear to be strongly considering SMU. Gray has legitimate interest it appears in SMU-as well as at least 9 other schools.

Hey! I put that there thank you.

As for Stallion's Braden Smith-hating. I guess it was a fluke then that he is the #3 QB in the area then huh? Perhaps we shouldn't take into account that he led his team to nearly knocking off Southlake Carroll last Thursday?
