One reason Franchione may be a great hire for us...

Its sort of a small thing and only really one player, but who knows he still hasn't signed yet...

Cyrus Gray- I am sure many of you who follow recruiting even in the slightest knew that he was at least somewhat interested in SMU in some respect and bringing Franchonie in and possibly two of his assistants would only help...

Gray himself said, "The assistants I talk to ? I like all of them. They're all kind of the same right now. I want to see who's here for me. Coach Franchione, coach Eggen and coach Pope (A&M coaches) have been around since my sophomore year. I'm probably closest to those three."

Getting a player like Cyrus Gray would be huge. I am not saying we would have a great chance, but we would definitely have some chance. Gray's biggest concerns so far seem to be in this order: Playing Time(which he would definitely get at SMU, he would have the chance to shine in Fran's system or really anyone's system), Academics (not common for most players as talented as him, but seems to be a big deal for Gray), Location (This may not be as big of a deal now, but I know that was a big reason why he was focusing in on A&M and SMU) and also how much he likes the coaches is going to play a huge impact. But if we signed Fran, we would have a chance.

As I have said before re: Gray, he is the type of player that
will attract other local kids to play with him.

SMU has to break through with the top local talent sometime & this is a kid
that I think could be the start of good things to come. I thought Arthur might be the same type of player for the SMU basketball program but you can't blame him for going to KU.

Of course you have to have "the best coach in America" to get Gray.
