Jared Dubois Tournament Report-MVP

Postby PonyDoh » Mon Dec 31, 2007 2:03 am

Westchester captured the Communities In School Bracket Championship Game with a 61-54 victory over White Station.

Saturday's session attracted 3,752 fans to West Ashley High School.

Westchester traveled from Los Angeles to play in the Roundball Classic for the second time in the event's history. In 2000, Westchester lost in the championship game, dropping a heart-breaking 73-70 overtime decision to Bishop O'Connell. This time, the trip home will be a lot more fun.

Saturday, Westchester finished the game with a 17-10 run to push its record to 14-2.

Guard Jared Dubois led the winners with 19 points, hitting 6 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point land. Oscar Bellfield added 11 points and three assists. Sophomore forward Dwayne Polle, who has already committed to play for Southern Cal, tallied eight points and five rebounds.

Patrick Coleman led White Station with 16 points. He hit 6 of 7 from the field and was 4 for 4 from 3-point land. Andre Hollins tallied 13 points, while Julian Burton scored 11.

White Station, which made the trip from Memphis, fell to 9-6. The Spartans played in the 2004 Roundball Classic when they finished third.

CIS all-tournament team: Toby Veal, Sol C. Johnson; Kevin Bruce, West Ashley; Joe Tecklenburg, Bishop England; Joe Jackson, White Station; Julian Burton, White Station. CIS MVP-Jared Dubois, Westchester. CIS MOP: Oscar Bellfield, Westchester.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

Pretty great stuff against some good competition. Hopefully Jared will talk Joe Jackson from White Station (also on the all-tourney team) into joining him on the hilltop. Joe is just a sophomore, but he is going to be a great one. Top 10 in the country for the sophomore class - I can dream can't I?

I'm hoping he is the type of player that can handle the rock, dish & creat his own shot for us NEXT YEAR. That truely is our weakness the last couple of years & just reading about this kid gets me even more excited about the future.

Its hard to tell though because I thought that Rhodes would be an explosive type player that would really contribute this year. Hopefully he will be.
