Mike Gundy is a Child

Postby Stallion » Tue Jan 08, 2008 8:31 pm

reports are that he jerked the scholarship offers of 3 more committed recruits in addition to The QB last week. 4 weeks before signing date. One LB Victor Jones from Richland had an SMU offer among several others. (I'm assuming this is is not academic related-which on second thought it could be because the Big 12 doesn't really allow non-qualifiers) If the high school coaches in this state let him get away with this crap I'd be surprised. No one should commit early again to Okie State.

At least he's giving kids a chance to find another place better suited for them before signing them, wasting a year or two of their eligibility, and letting them dwindle off at Central Oklahoma chasing mooseknuckles in Rocky Mountain jeans.

Ran into Johnny Ringo at Armed Forces Bowl. He is the uncle of Kody Spano, qb from Stephenville and victim of being a Gundy commit. Mentioned Gundy was keeping the offer on the table, but it was not for the early enrollment that he originally promised. According to Ringo, that wouldnt have been a problem had Gundy not encouraged Spano to graduate early last summer after offering the scholarship.

I'm not sure if that's the report you've come across, or if its the case with the other offers being pulled, but Ringo is believable. Mentioned Spano already lined up visits to Nebraska and another BCS school, but it escapes me at the moment.

For what its worth, I've seen Spano play twice, as a junior and senior. Slow, deliberate release and he actually regressed as a threat from one year to the next. He put on too much weight and was not as mobile, but he looks the part. As a junior, he reminded me of Alex Smith. As a senior, he resembled Tate Wallis, post TE days.

Maybe he'll end up at TCU if thats the case.
