Wouldn't it be great if Terrence Wilkerson was best friends with Cyrus & Adrian Bushell (#26 & 49 on the attached list)
HS teammates. U never know !

I saw this kid on a TV interview & came away really impressed.
Very sharp kid. Talked about a quality degree more than football.
He has shown interest in us in the past & hopefully the JJ hire really got his & his teammates attention. Lot of talent over in the DeSoto, Lancaster, Cedar Hill area.

Actually, Wilkerson is pretty tight with both of them.

Why would we be more attractive to a running back after hiring Jones?

Why is SMU attractive?
June Jones wins games
SMU is in his hometown (just about)
His good buddy (Wilkerson) already plays there
Chuck Weatherspoon put up huge numbers as the SuperBack in this offense
The "scenery" on this campus is unmatched

Do you want to know what he is actually saying about his intentions in recent days or do want to go on thinking that Cyrus Gray wants to be the SB in a Run and Shoot?

Yeah, he doesn't want to do that? Run-n-Shoot ruined Barry Sander's career

People just think we can pick and choose our recruits now. Hawaii's national rank in rushing over the past nine years:
'99 - 106th
'00 - 109th
'01 - 114th
'02 - 100th
'03 - 106th
'04 - 108th
'05 - 111th
'06 - 82nd
'07 - 116th
Over the past nine years (not a small sample at all) the average national rank is 106th. Out of 114 to 119 schools.
But you're right, Barry Sanders has a lot to do with this discussion.
Junes Jones will win at SMU. He will bring fans to games. He will bring excitement to the program.
He will not attract top running backs.
Hey, we can't have it all.

Ok the RnS system will not attract top running backs but will it attract top dual threat QBs? Ramon Flanigan did all right in the RnS as a passer and rusher...

Unlike many on this forum, I have a high regard for Phil Bennett. If I was to make on critique it would be that I felt that in several cases he 1) didn't modify his schemes to fit his players, and 2) he didn't always put the best 11 on the field.
Sure, June has a system. But I find it inconceivable that if we had a back like Cyrus Gray on the roster, he wouldn't become a featured threat of this new offense. I just don't see Jones passing on a lay-up like that.

Actually, the "run and shoot" employs more of a drop back (pro style) passer than a scrambler...SMU just happen to have a scambling QB in that system (Flanigan)...Colt had something like 50 yards of rushing all year and many would agree that Hawaii's offense this year was the best they have ever had...Justin may add a couple new wrinkles, but overall the QB steps back and launches the ball...

Cyrus is listed under the category of athlete.
He played QB last year & was the MVP of his district playing that position.
I'm not sure its a given what his position is. I just think of him as an outstanding young man, athlete/ football player who could probably play many different positions.
These are the types of kids we need in our program.
