Doh gets transfer!January 15
"Good News" Mouhammad Faye has joined our basketball team. He is a transfer from Georgia Tech and has enrolled at SMU and practiced today. Mouhammad is a 6-9, 208-pound native of Dakar, Senegal, and played with Bamba on Senegal’s National Team at the FIBA African Games last summer. He averaged 12 points per game, scoring 22 in a win over South Africa and 20 versus Morocco. He also teamed with Papa at the SEED Academy in Senegal. Mouhammad is a long, face-up forward who can pass, handle and shoot with good speed and quickness. He has toughness and a very good feel of the game. He will add a lot to our goal of being a top-25 program. Due to NCAA transfer rules, he will have to sit out one academic year and can become eligible when grades are posted at the end of the Fall 2008 semester. Hope to see you in Moody this week. Coach Doh
As long as he keeps his grades in order, he will be eligble, this time next season! Congratulations Doh....and the mob boss, for getting things changed!
Here's some info from Georgia Tech official website-mentions 73 inch wingspan

Faye was forced into the starting lineup during one period and responded at a higher level than other games in which he played few minutes. Here's an excerpt from that period-think it was from 2006-2007
Hewitt forced to plug and play: With the loss of Clinch and Peacock, head coach Paul Hewitt has been forced to experiment with unproven players. The most recent example was when red-shirt freshman Mouhammad Faye became the eighth different player to start a game for the team this season on December 30. The 6-foot-10 Senegal, native has averaged 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in his last four games since
Red-shirt freshman Mouhammad Faye became the eighth Georgia Tech player, and fourth freshman, to start a game when he took the floor for the opening tip against Saint Francis. Faye, a 6-10 forward, replaced Lewis Clinch in the starting five and joined point guard Javaris Crittenton, wingman Thaddeus Young, strong forward Jeremis Smith and center Ra'Sean Dickey.
Faye's biggest contributions come on defense, where his 7-foot-3 wingspan has caused havoc in Tech's press and in halfcourt defensive situations, and also can handle, pass and shoot the ball. The Dakar, Senegal, native has averaged 9.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in his two starts, and 4.8 points and 3.4 rebounds for the season.
So does he have 2.5 years elgibility left or just 2? He red shirted one year and played the first two months of the second.
Awesome news! Although he only played the 2006-07 and fall portion of the current season he will only have 1.5 years of eligibility because he already burned his redshirt but must still sit out 1 full season. Thus his NCAA clock will expire before he has the opportunity to play a fourth season.
