Denzel WellsWide Receiver/Kick Returner
2* 5.1 Rated 5'10'' 175lbs Cypress Falls high school Visits Rice first half of this weekend but heads to SMU on Sunday for an official Sun/Mon. Offers: Rice, SMU, Louisiana Tech, Fresno State, Sam Houston and Texas State.
he's listed as a WR.
Rivals article said he would likely make his decision by around Wednesday of next week. Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.
there's an update on Rivals that just came through. Technically, he doesn't have an SMU offer but that may change. He looks like he had a great year this year so he could be underrated. Wells had over 1,000 yards receiving this year.
or just maybe we (on this board) don't know anything more about our current recruiting of players than we did on the selection of our new coach! Let's all go back a look at our posts from November and December and how everyone was dead wrong--even our guru's who quickly pointed out when JJ's name came out very late--"trust me he would never seriously consider SMU"!
But PB was wrong. Wasn't his offense...it was Rusty's...and both of them were unfortunate enough to place too much faith in their summer football camps for the pool of their recruits. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Are you serious? Wouldn't Coach Sugar Bowl's record suggest to you that he can identify some talent? Maybe even more than some guys who sit at computers regurgitating others' opinions so they can sell ... subscription? It's a toss-up, I realize, but put me in Coach Jones' camp on this one.
I think he went to the Sugar Bowl largely because he was smart enough to give guys like Colt Brennan(Colorado), Javon Bess(Oregon St). a backfield of Texas JUCOs, and a bunch of other transfers that accounted for about half their starters a a second chance not necessarily because he proved he's better talent evaluator of high school athletes than the next guy. But you keep on believing in miracles.
JJ recruited these transfers and JUCO's as a result of his evaluation skills. He apparently determined that these players were better players for his system than what was available to him at the high school level. Recruiting out of Hawaii with a limited budget made these kinds of players essential to success. I for one have confidence that JJ will find the best players for SMU whatever the source. I bet the majority will come out of highschool but we will also get our share of JUCO's and transfers to ffill in the holes. JJ has been here less than a month. Why are you so negative about his ability to evaluate tallent? No basis that I can see.
I believe he'll do just fine as long as he is able to go after the best player regardless of whether is a high school player, transfer, Division 1A Transfer, JUCO, Prep or late qualifier via Community College just like his competition does. I don't believe its correct to assume he has proven himself to be an unparrelleled evaluator of high school athletes like was suggested. He'll win if he gets better talent than his opponents-those hoping he will turn coal into diamonds will be disappointed.
