Recruit Size?

Postby Ponymon » Mon Jan 28, 2008 9:44 pm

Wait a minute guys! Some of you must have missed a board discussion about PB's signing of Cole Beasley. There was a lot of disgust thrown out on this board about the small recruits he was getting. Now we have a LITTER of small recruits. I wonder what some of the previous posters who were for bigger recruits think about this development?

See, that's the thing: Mighty Mites are like cluster munitions; you need a lot of them to do any damage.

Sorry. I'm just bored out of my head, not studying for the bar.

This is a good study of Hawaii's starters that go 6-2, 5-11, 5-11 and 5-10

I'm not really all that worried about 5-8 or 5-9 Inside Receivers. Remember this guy at Houston-Jason Phillips-2 time All-American at 5-8. (who I am now projecting as SMU's new Receiver Coach based on a hint that he was a former teammate of Andre Ware) But 5-5 and 5-7 will take a uniquely talented individual who can vertical 38.4 like Quincy Whittington. You can win with small Inside receivers. I'm not a big fan out outside receivers under 5-11 though. And definitely not a fan of 5-9 CBs.

Has it dawned on any of you that June Jones runs a different system than Bennett/Burns?

(By the way, if you work your way through that, please get back to me on what the Bennett/Burns system actually was.)

Basically avoid the 1 yard line at all costs.

Keep in mind we still have Martin and Butler. I think we'll be fine. Heck, it'd be hard to get worse.

Yeah, Martin really saved our season last year.

I think he has the talent and physical tools to be a great back. He just needs the right coaches to get him back in the right frame of mind to play good football. He needs to think of every opponent as TCU, because it seems that he plays well against the purple things.

Agreed - frame of mind is huge with Martin, as is the calling of plays that actually utilize his talents. I still believe he can have a huge senior year. Spread the defense by rolling 513 receivers out there, and let Martin beat the hell out of teams up front.
