The most important thing is JJ's PROVEN time and time again that he and his staff can pick TALENT. That is why so many kids send dvd's. They think they were overlooked and, of course, in many cases they were....I think because JJ did the picking, that this class will turn out alot better than scout and rivals would think. If JJ wins here next year, SMU will be alot more popular with the better known athletes for sure....It is going to be fun to play here and be part of this team in the future.......I'm sure rivals and scout would love to have JJ help grade future prospects.

well as stallion will gladly point out, he follows recruiting more then any person in this galaxy and I'm just a cheerleader... I think JJ did a good job addressing some holes with Odari and Victor Jones and im really excited about Deyon McElroy... not too worried about the offense because I think JJ will make it work with the guys we currently have... I do think he did a good job of adding some much needed height to the team

If I understand Stallion's comments in other threads (and I am sure he will clarify if I have misspoken), this has some quality players at the top and potential at the lower end. That is to be expected of the first rebuilding class. The last successful coach to rebuild SMU (Ron Meyer) started with a respectable but not notable class. That class included Emmanuel Tolbert (All American and not heavily recruited), Robert Fisher (two years in the NFL and also not heavily recruited), and the base of the 1980 offensive line (fifth years, Mike Mason, Robert Barnes, Mike Jusko and Clement Fox). There were some kids that immediately played (Ken Rosenthal-punter, Bob Fisher-TE, Emmanuel Tolbert-WR, Thomas Ferguson-WR, Twitty Hunt-NG, Robert Barnes-deep snap, Randy Jurecka, FB, Randy Brooks-DL, Randy Katz (LB that year, later an OL), and Tony Black (started against TTU that year)). Meyers also had a shorten recruiting season (not as short as Jones').

This class looks to give us immediate help and some long term potential. It wasn’t until Meyer’s second recruiting class that people began to take notice of the talent he was attracting. Time will tell but in some ways, this class may be similar to Meyer's first class.

Thank god he hasn't forgotten more about football than I ever knew.
