Great article in today's DMN about the class of 2012. Specifically, it discussed the fact that 3 of the top recruits in the nation are in Texas, 2 are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, and the recruit that is not in the metroplex has connections to good'ol SMU. That recruit is Reese, who is a 6-0 inch point guard out of Bryan, Texas. He has been the top recruit in the NATION for this class for the last 2 years, but has dropped to #2 this year. His connection to SMU is that he is the son of former SMU tight end and Parade All-American Albert Reese, who played for SMU along with Eric the Great and Craig James in the early 1980's on our championship teams.

The top recruit in the NATION for the 2012 class is a 6'9", 220 lb. power forward named Zach Peters who has been held back 1 year because of injury, but is still only in 8th grade! Next year he will be a 9th grader attending Prestonwood Christian in Plano. I can't imagine how tall he will be then!

The fifth ranked recruit in the NATION for the 2012 class is a 6-7 center from Grand Prairie named John Crowder. If Doh could get the signature if any of these 3 guys we probably could be a force in bball. All 3 and he might contend for national honors. I know the chances are slim, but we have a lead-in with Reese and the fact that Peters family obviously places a high value on obtaining a good education. If SMU can get its act together, we might be desirable enough for Peters to give us a look see, especially if he wants to stay close to him. Hope Doh is corresponding with these guys now as recruiting starts early. Here is a link to the article:

Bert was a freshman in 1983. Three year starter at tight end for us, played a couple of years with the Redskins, where he was moved to O-line. He didnt last long, but did get a Super Bowl ring. After the NFL he came back to SMU and finished his degree, but then moved back to Virginia. He stopped coming to the reunions and so forth, and I havent seen him in about 12 years.

I had Albert in a couple of classes at SMU. Sat next to him in one. I am 6'5" and he made me look tiny. His hands were massive. Nice guy and good player.

According to the article, this guy is Albert Reese's nephew not son. Of course, we just got Art Whittington's nephew, Quincy in football. Whether we will have a shot probably depends on how Doh and the Ponies progress over the next several years.
